I cried too no matter what number of son it was so I know how difficult it is to let them go
We are so glad you are here and look forward to hearing about your sailor This is is a great support group or all of you from boot camp to the fleet.
What is your sailor doing with the navy?
My son has only been gone a week. He left may 6th. The hardest part so far is not being able to talk to him. Good luck and spend as much time as you can with her now. Linda

PS:Admin tip of the day... You are unique (Name Change)
I know for parents, bootcamp is scarey ~ I think we are more scared then the kids are! But honestly, it truely is not that bad. The best advice I can give you, is to remember, that she has a strong spirit, and will be fine ~ and stay close to your best friend... you'll need someone to talk to, hug, and laugh with when it's over. I know when someone said that to me, I always said 'sure...easier said than done' ~ and it is easy to say it. I remember the nights crying, not knowing anything...not hearing from her. It was hard.
After the first 2 weeks, I started to relax and looked forward to her graduation ~ started making the plans to be there helped me so much.
And as far as what to expect. She will get to Great Lakes, call you ~ have long enough to say "I'm here mom, I love you", and it'll be a couple weeks before you hear from her. Once you get that phone call, wait 2 days and call her recruiter ~ he/she will have your daughters address. Start writing her letters ~ just remember to keep them upbeat. That was one thing I learned quickly....dont make the entire letter about how much you miss her. Every time you want to write that, write how proud you are of her instead. Be prepared to send a letter every day ~ doesnt matter if it's a postcard, a letter, a card of encouragement, a couple crosswords ripped out of a book....the sunday funnies... just anything. Mail is a BIG BIG thing there for the recruits.
You may not believe it yet, but you will be fine. We will be here to help you.
I live in Mohawk, New York. But am going to be in Norfolk the first week of June. I am really looking forward to the trip.
My email address is simplyjudi2@yahoo.com ~ chat screen name is the same if you like to chat sometime...just send me a note to let me know, and I'll meet ya there.
Hang in there mom... she will do great!! and so will you.
