PIR 5/23/08

Hello, My son is scheduled for PIR on 5/23. He is in Div 927, Ship 6. I, unfortunately, have not heard from him yet, other than the Grad Date from the Navy, "the box" and "the phone call" on the date he arrived. He did get a chance to call me from O'Hare when he arrived there on the day he left home. He's not much of a writer, and I didn't expect to hear much, but I am concerned that I have not heard anything. Is there any other Mom here that has a child in that same Div. I read a post here yest… Continue

Hey Maggie! Just dropped in to get an update. My son, Steven, finally got to SC on Wednesday night. We hope to get a call this weekend. He said classes start Monday for them. He's a nuke too; doing the same thing as Care Bear's sailor. Things are so much more relaxed around here now that BC is over!! :) I can't wait to get Steven's things to him so we'll be able to communicate more. How's Jeff?? Glad to be out of BC?? Keep in touch -
Hugs from Houston,
Cindy

Hi Barbara, Good luck to Kim in Battlestations. My son Jeff said it was the most fun part of BC. I'm sure she will do well, but it something that they are so glad to get behind them so they can move on. What is Kim going to do in the Navy? There are so many opportunities, it just blow me away to hear of all the areas of training that these kids are headed for. Are you going to be able to go to PIR? We stayed at a great place that I would highly recommend. The Homewood Suites in Lincolnshire. It was absolutley the best. Beautiful rooms, excellent service, breakfasts and a 15 minute trip to the base. Also, wherever you make reservations, be sure to tell them that you are there for PIR.. they give huge discounts... OK.. gotta run.. Hoping to hear from Jeff today. He arrived in Charleston last night. Take good care and please feel free to ask me anything that you think I may be able to help you with. Us Moms need to stick together...:)

Hi Maggie,
it was so great meeting you at the PIR after all these weeks of N4M messaging! it was a wonderful ceremony, and it's fantastic having David during the day for the entire weekend! He was alittle disappointed that they didn't extend their hours until later...so we had him back by 6 yesterday and today.
Let us know what you all did druing your son's time off. There are a few pics posted on Photos from the PIR 5/23...take a look! When we get home we'll post our pics too! Mark says Hi!!!
Take care!

Heard on the Chicago news that they plan to stop construction for the Memorial Day weekend, so hopefully it will alleviate for all of the PIR travelers...including my family tonight as we drive from Valparaiso, IN to Great Lakes.

Hi Gloria, Thanks so much for the update. I think I am more anxious now than I was a few days ago.. the closer it gets to the end, the more I want it to just be over..lol. We are leaving for Great Lakes on Wednesday the 21st, so I have the packing and planning to do so that keeps my mind busy. I want to get there early so I can take a "dry run" trip to the base from the hotel to make sure I don't get lost. I also want to decorate the room and get Jeff a birthday cake. Even though we did celebrate his birthday before he left, it just didn't feel right to me that I was not able to get him a cake on the actual date of his birthday, which was the day that he left for Boot Camp. That will also give us a little time to re-group so we have plenty of energy to get up bright and early on the 23rd and not be totally exhausted for the rest of the day... So take good care and be sure to let us know if you hear anything from David... Thanks....Maggie..:)
