Profile Information

About me:
I am a Navy Mom. Trying to get used to empty nesting. I am not sure if my husband and I ever will. LOL! Our son left for BC 4-15-08. He is now a Gunners Mate and scheduled to be stationed in Japan. We can see that the Navy is the best decision that Aaron could have made. He is bright young man with a great future and will get to see many places.

We also have a daughter, Jenna who is a teacher. She teaches 5th grade at a Bilingual school and Loves it. It makes it all worth it to see your kids doing what they want to do!!

To round out the family we have 2 weiner dogs at home that run our house. Einstein and Bambina. They are still wondering where the kids went.
My child's FIRST name only (No Last Names Please!):
Aaron
My son/daughter is:
Enlisted
I was the proudest of my child when:
I have always been proud of Aaron. He has wanted to go in the Navy for a long time. He is a great son. If I would have to choose a time--it is definately when I saw him at PIR!!
As a new Navy mom, the most important thing I learned was:
There is strength in numbers. I felt very alone before I found this site. I try to keep myself informed an up to date as much as I can. I feel I can support Aaron better that way!!

Grateful for the mess

I sit among the whirlwind of items strewn all over the room as I type away at my computer. My sailor came home last night from A school. We will have him for a couple of weeks before he heads to C School in San Diego. My office is his old room. Last week I would come in here to check my N4M smiling to myself that soon I would be sharing my surroundings. There was a time a few years ago that I would have been very irritated at the mess around me-today I welcome and embrace it. Some of these items… Continue

The Farmer and the Politicians

Hope I don't offend-I just thought this was funny!! A busload of politicians were driving down a country road when all of a sudden, the bus ran off the road and crashed into a tree in an old farmer's field. The old farmer, after seeing what had happened, went over to investigate. He then proceeded to dig a hole to bury the politicians. A few days later the local sheriff came out, saw the crashed bus, and asked the old farmer where all the politicians had gone. The old farmer sai… Continue

Surprise-Surprise!!

My son came home for the long labor day weekend and surprised us!! It was the best surprise ever!! He is currently in A school and was trying hard to get leave for the long weekend. He called me @ 2 pm his time at work the Thursday before. He was really down and he told me that he was trying to get leave and it didn't go through. I could tell he was really frustrated. He said he jumped through all the hoops they asked and it always took a long time for everything and everyone was telling him dif… Continue

Just an idea...

When I was talking to Aaron yesterday he said that the letters he had gotten soo far were really great. We have friends that have asked for his address-- --so I went to Staples and bought some 2x4 labels. Printed them all with Aaron's address and have mailed them to our friends and family that have asked. For his going away party we had a tropical shower curtain hung up that we tried to get most of the people pictured in front of it with Aaron. For those that I have the picture of I am enclosin… Continue

Pinch me to see if it is a dream...

I got my first call yesterday!!!!!!!!!! I almost missed it. I hadn't taken my cell phone off the charger yet (didn't really expect I would get a call). It started ringing and usually by the time I get to it - it goes to vm. I saw "Unknown" - the last time I got a call from "Unknown" it was Aaron on his first night. My heart sank. Luckily he knows I am a tard when it comes to my phone and he called right back. WaaHoo!! I tried to think of all the questions I needed to ask him - sure enough I thou… Continue

Kathy:

Trust that all is going well, because we're not hearing from you too much.

Anyway, here's another joke to add to your collection:

Do you know the difference between a Northern zoo and a Southern Zoo?

Both have signs telling visitors what the animals are, their habitate, etc, but Southern zoos also include suggested recipes in which the animals can be used.

Gotcha!!!

Thank you for your comment Kathy! I'm sure I will have questions as the time gets closer. Is your son still home?

Hi there:)! Life is good! I'm glad you'll have a nice holiday with your parents, that's one thing I miss about us being here . . . no big family gatherings . . .
I'll be off to Costco after they open and later to Fry's, then tomorrow's the 'baking day' . . . with just us, I'll probably end up freezing a bunch for over the next few weeks:)!
GIANT HUGS to you and yours:)!

Kathy, you are so funny! And yes, hate those goodbye hugs. Ashley has way too many of them. It's funny how in touch with that you are. I will tell her your comments. Dean is home now (just got home a couple of days ago), so her world is so perfect. What an amazing homecoming. I'm glad you liked the picture. Loving this. Talking to you.

My student's love mail and they love to learn about the United States. We would love to hear from your daughter's class. Thanks so much for thinking of that. We've gotten all kinds of things and ideas with this project. I know this is going to be something that the children (and their teacher) will remember. It will make them so much more aware of the geography of the United States and also to have an appreciation for this wonderful country.
Thanks again!

Hi Kathy..I am going to try hard to get there..I am very excited..Usually I would spend the weekend there but, must get home as my son-in-law will be home for the weekend and I have a baby shower to co-host the next day..

I have been empty nested for about 5 years and still not used to it..I sort of wish that time would go backwards so that I could see my son and daughter fight for the time on the computer or who goes where first...

Kathy:

Saw your post on the "mess" you have on your hands. And the noise, and everything else you may have forgotten that Aaron is home.

We feel the same way. In fact, we've been the place for years for everyone and anyone who is friend, family, or acquaintance to stop by. It's not the mess that makes or breaks us, it's the sound of many people having fun and enjoying themselves, letting their hair hang down so to speak. We are sure you have more people than you have space many times. What has been like a sociological study in our home is to see our children's friends with tatoos and piercings and advante garde clothing mingling with some of our older, more "mature" adult members and the apparent barriers because of physical appearances disappearing and everyone having a blast and a half.

We can't take any physical possessions with us into Heaven, but we can bring other people, and hopefully, as many as possible. To many of our children's friends, we're the "cool" parents, except to our own kids of course - it's part of life, I guess. They know that we won't judge them to the point of condemnation. Sometimes we end up being like a pressure release valve - letting kids crash for a break for their parents and for them as well.

We don't even have to encourage you to enjoy Aaron, because you are and you have excellently put everything in proper perspective. Record all that you are experiencing in your memory's horde - to be played back and enjoyed more and more as you remember still another intimate detail that you missed previously. Those memories that you have learned to enjoy previously will become even more enriched and meaningful and will give you and Sylvan greater strength and courage. You will all see yourselves with reinforced faith in Aaron's career decision and make both of you prouder and prouder each time.

So be of good cheer and faith. Remember all of you are in God's hands and enveloped in His loving embrace. Let his Grace abound more and more in your lives. Take what you are learning and share and encourage others, which you have been doing. But, realize the gifts that God is stirring within both of you is for His purpose and for your edification and growth in Him.

Love & God Bless,

Mary-Ellen & Tim

Hi Kathy, Sorry this took so long to reply - I currently work for 3 companies and taking care of my folks. So time is short right now. But to answer your question, I went to the UPS store to send my items. I just used on of their box's and it was very expensive (@ $132.00) I'm not sure about the flat rate boxes. I did think that the from now on I will send fewer items each time and in more frequencies to save the money. P.S. my son will be going back to OKI as he calls it when he finishes in Iraq. Maybe we can hook them up. As for how long he's been there, he deployed in Sept. and is due back between March to July 09, not sure he can't tell me anything. What's you son's MOS?
