Matthew's Mom

Profile Information

About me:
I am a mother of 7 children. Joshua (21) the oldest is mentally handicapped. Matthew (20) has just joined the Navy and is the one you will be hearing a lot about. Nolan (18) is a Jr in high school and planning on joining the Air Force RoTC program when he graduates. Rose (16) is into horses and little kids. Patricia (11) is also into horses and is incredibly artistic musically & sculpting/drawing. James (9) is my little whiz kid, he is in the TAG program at school and keeps me active (he's very busy) and then my surprise baby Abigail is well 2, very active into everything and is everybody's joy (most of the time). I live in the great Pacific Northwest. I am a 4-H horse leader for 10 children. I love teaching them about their horses, but it definitely keeps me busy.
My child's FIRST name only (No Last Names Please!):
Matthew Currently in San Diego
My son/daughter is:
Enlisted
I was the proudest of my child when:
He made the decision to join the service and DO something with his life.
When my son/daughter first spoke about joining the service I:
Needed to learn more about it, Was proud, Was relieved, Encouraged him/her
As a new Navy mom, the most important thing I learned was:
I have to "let go"
My son/daughter is currently in the service or retired, and now I believe:
Our relationship has grown stronger, This was a maturing experience, This was the best decision he/she could have made

I have no clue what week this is...But it is my B-day!

I'm so excited. I have spent weeks on this stupid computer trying to find good deals for travel. Since I talked my husband into staying an extra day, I needed another room. Called the Navy lodge and they were full. So the search for a motel started. This morning I called the Super 8 motel listed in the brochure (I know it s not fancy, but it has a roof & bed) and was able to get a room for only $6 more than the Navy Lodge including taxes! Then to press my luck even further, I tried finding r… Continue

He is in Ship 14 Division 243 So now I'm off to the post office to send him some letters! I'm so excited!

Day 6

I missed writing over the weekend because my kids had youth fair with their horses. I am sooooo tired. 7 kids & 7 horses all with attitude plus 90 + degree weather. Not a lot of fun. Last night I checked in to see what all had happened over the weekend & I was to tired & sore to even focus. I am still sore today, because the sunscreen had a short lifespan and I look like a lobster :( I waited for the mailman & still no 'form letter' to let me know his address or division. I call… Continue

Day 3 "the Box"

I was so excited, I looked out the window and the FedEx truck was coming down my driveway. I ran out to meet him (driveway closed cause horses 'mowing' yard) and by the time I got back into the house my almost 2 yr old had found a jar of lotion and had proceeded to cover the leather recliner! I was out there less than 2 minutes! So I couldn't even tear into the box until I got her into the tub & clean up her mess. Lotion is good for leather, right? So I finally get to tear into the box hopi… Continue

Day 2

Well, I've been talking with friends and I think I have Saturday the 12th covered at fair, and I just spoke with MIL and she is willing to take my 2 youngest (2 & 9) a week early, so I can plan for going. Now If I can just find out the "Official" date of graduation I'll be set. My luck I'll get everything planned & then they will set a different date.

Will, I hope your son enjoys CA. Vanessa says her hours are the greatest. The weather is great. Only sad thing, is that she is the youngest person (20) working in her area.

Iwonder why he didn't re-route his ticket? It cost Vanessa $35 dollars to have the agent on base in MS "A" school to re-route to here then off to Fresno, CA. Anyway...Its more than likely its too late, but militarytogo.com is where they can purchase their tickets. Military personel only.

Junie, where did your son get stationed? Vanessa is in Lemoore, CA. How is is doing? Vanessa loves her SKSR hours. 7-2:30 M-T, then Fridays are 7-10 in the morning. So far, things have been slow for her. More shots, more tests, more classes. We will be going down in October to bring her car. Anyway...keep me posted. Carol

Don't worry, it wasn't your son. It was a bunch of girls who left base, which is fine, on liberty...but they decided to head to another State, Alabama. They were caught. They were not AWOL, they just can't leave the State. They can still talk on the phone, and stuff, just no leaving base, meals taken only at mess hall, and no extra curricular activities. Punishing entire base from what I understood. Oh...and alot of underage drinking going on. Vanessa say's its crazy what these kids do with a little bit of freedom.

How is Matthew? Vanessa is doing ok. Saw you on-line, and forgot your were from Scappoose. (in the neighborhood) I didn't know your son went to MS? Vanessa is hoping to finish by this Friday and be sent home next week. Thats what were hoping for anyway. Does your son talk about the things that go on at the base? (trouble makers)? Did he get his liberty taken away for two weeks, because of those trouble makers? Vanessa doesn't go anywhere outside of base, but all extra activities have been taken away, so only goes to PFA, Mess Hall, School. She's not very happy right now.

Junie, I'm just getting back to AZ, I've be in MI nd out of email communiaton. It was nice meeting you and your husband too. Travis left GL on 7/9, and is adjusting to Navy life in FL and outside of bootcamp. Isn't it odd how much they changed while in boot camp? Travis finally has a cell phone in FL and can call home when his schedule allows.
