About me:
"Preparing" for Mike's 8/22 departure for BC at GL. Would love to hear from other Moms who have sons/daughters departing at the same time.
Michelle , Atascosa, TX (just south of San Antonio) chelle3081@yahoo.com

My child's FIRST name only (No Last Names Please!):
Michael DIV 395 SHIP 13, PIR: 17th OCT, 2008
My son/daughter is:
Enlisted
I was the proudest of my child when:
OCT 17, 2008
Pass In Review Ceremony
Simply put: A Lifechanging Event for the Entire Family!

Aug 22, 2008: Swearing In Ceremony at MEPS
I can't even begin to put into words how much it means to watch your son or daughter take this amazing step and begin their adventure. For other Navy Moms preparing for their departures, make plans to go!! Insist their recruiter provide you with that information!!
When my son/daughter first spoke about joining the service I:
Was proud, Encouraged him/her
As a new Navy mom, the most important thing I learned was:
That I had SO much to learn! I am so eager to learn everything I can about the Navy. From Basic Training to his upcoming career choices ~ I want to know everything I can so I can be the best support system available.

Update 9/1/08: Although the above is still true, it pales in comparison to the realization that I was NOT ready for Mike to leave. I thought I was but obviously I was wrong. It is truly mind blowing how a Mother can be SO PROUD yet so heartbroken all at the same time.
My son/daughter is currently in the service or retired, and now I believe:
This was a maturing experience, The Navy has a lot to offer, This was the best decision he/she could have made

Hey Michelle! Got a question for you. That couple that was at Austins the whole time with us. They were from Cleveland, I think. Did you get their names? It was so noisy, I'm not sure I heard them, but they sure were a lot of fun!

Hey, Michelle- I got the addresses in the mail the other day. I've just been a little busy lately. How is Michael doing? Craig is at "A" school in Meridian and has his cell phone and IPOD so he very happy again. He sends a text every morning to say hello and let us know he loves us. They grow up so much in 8 weeks. How are you doing? And thanks for everything. Big Hug!!

The rest of the trip was great, thanks, though that drive home is a rear-killer. I'm glad we took two days each way, but even so have numb bum! I did see the pictures, thanks, and have managed to save some of them. I'll try to share some of mine when I have brains back enough to figure out how to do it. Am a bit fried tonight. Thanks again for a fabulous weekend!
