About me:
I'm a nurse in NICU. I'm married to my wonderful hubby for 28yrs. We have 2 sons, Scott (26) and John (19). I love to garden, knit and will try any kind of craft. We sent our younges to BC on 5/20/08.
My child's FIRST name only (No Last Names Please!):
John
My son/daughter is:
Enlisted
I was the proudest of my child when:
He decided, all on his own to join the Navy and his final swearing in.
When my son/daughter first spoke about joining the service I:
Was concerned or afraid, Needed to learn more about it, Was proud
As a new Navy mom, the most important thing I learned was:
To support my son in whatever he wanted to do. I've also learned patience and frequent prayer helps get me the waiting and wondering.
My son/daughter is currently in the service or retired, and now I believe:
Our relationship has grown stronger, This was the best decision he/she could have made

This is for all you Wonderful N4Ms

I read this email today and I immediately thought of every woman here and wanted to share it with you. I think it describes us to a tee :) WHY Women Cry A little boy asked his mother, 'Why are you crying?' 'Because I'm a woman,' she told him. 'I don't understand,' he said. His Mom just hugged him and said, 'And you never will.' Later the little boy asked his father, 'Why does mother seem to cry for no reason?' 'All women cry for no reason,' was all his dad could say. The little boy grew… Continue

His Journey is Over

Boy who ever knew 8 weeks ago how much could happen in a short period of time. It's taken me awhile to sit down and write this blog. It's been more than an emotional rollercoaster. John went back to the base, after being in the hospital for a weeks rest and then a re-evaluation for his back problem. We were all very hopeful as the dr at the hospital said the MRI was normal and he thought it was all muscle. When the Navy drs did the evaluation, with only an xray, they told John he had a compressi… Continue

Today has been an Emotional Rollercoaster!!

Just when I was feeling comfortable that no news was good news, my cell phone rang this am. I only have the cell phone for John to call me on from bootcamp. I got all excited, a second phone call. Well, not so exciting. John was calling from the hospital, my heart just about stopped! Apparently, all had been going well since he had the little back problem6/10 until yesterday afternoon. While doing sit ups in PT, he went up, he went down and then he was down and out. Alot of pain etc. Was taken t… Continue

Well another BC milestone!! We recieved our first letter last Friday - YAHOO!! Things are sounding good so far except he doesn't like the food. Had one day of PT and that wasn't bad. Was just good to see in writing that he is doing OK. Next the phone call - can't wait!! 2 weeks down and 5 more to go. I started a group for PIR 7/11/08. Anyone with recruits scheduled for that day - please come and join in so we can compare notes, share stories and support each other!!

Hey Maryann, Sorry it's taken me so long to get back to you. I am now five months along and on the 22nd we get to find out what we're having. Eric hasn't heard back about his paperwork yet, but he is calling them on Monday. He did talk to the Army though and they said since his paperwork says he has to wait a year as far as the Army goes he has to wait until June. If that's the case with the Navy as well, he said he's going to join the Army instead. He liked some of the job ops. better, however if the Navy comes through in the next couple of days or so and says everything is okay, then he's going to go ahead and go back with the Navy. So right now it's a wait and see what the Navy says kind of thing. Another thing he found out was the Army will try and fix you with everything possible before they will send you home, unlike the Navy who just (to him) seems to want to just get rid of you. Anyway, we'll see what happens.
I hope you and your family had a really good Thanksgiving! How is John doing? I hope all is going well for him too.

Hi Maryann,
On my page, below your comment is a mom I just met here by chance of another mom. Their sons both have GBS. Mom "Fran" son has been in the ICU for the past month and is trached, the other mom "Kristina" son was just diagnosed this past weekend with it too. This is crazy. Please keep them in your prayers, they are strong, strong moms. I wish we had known about Fran, but she did not know about N4M. Please take care and know that right now more than ever I am thinking of you and how wonderful your prayers have been, and I am asking you to pray for these moms too.

Matt talks about maybe going back in, but hasn't done anything active in that direction. He has been without health insurance for at least 4 years now. We can't pay it for him, and he refuses to carry it himself. It drove me nuts for a while too,He had an ER visit for a laceration that needed suturung and he has a 1000 bill hanging over him. He hasn't contacted the hospital to get them to drop the bill due to his finances. He is very thick.lol
My mom died in December, so it has been d10 months. When she died her landlord gave us a month to clear out 40 years worth of accumulation. so we threw stuff in cartons and gave stuff away that we couldn't take. They have a trailer upstate that we went thru during the summer. My parents used to sell at flea markets so had hundreds of cartons to go thru, which is why I am still working on cartons.lol.
With the sicknesses and matt's adventure with the Navy, I barely catch my breath and we are on to something else. Well this taught me to start throwing my own stuff out that I really don't need. I have to anyway if we are moving to Oregon.

Hi Maryann, thanks for adding that info to help kathy. i need to make a list of who had what issues in ship 17! Can't keep it straight anymore. I don't know how they do their diagnosing at Great lakes. How do they screw up so many dx's?
How are you and your son doing. Matt lost his job, is taking a temp job for UPS. Mike is still nervous from the strokes, and panics at the least symptom. they just did cognitive testing on him, and from what he told me, he has the normal short term memory issues you have after 60. i am trying to get things organized here going thru my parents, and my, stuff little by little.

Well there is only one very wiggley baby. I'm kind of sad and then again happy too, one will be easier to buy baby stuff for.
Eric got his release papers turned in and they are at St. Louis, so here's hoping that his paperwork hurry ups and goes through so he can get back in there. He said if they won't let him in, then he's going to go and join the Army. Hopefully he'll be staying with the Navy. Just thought I'd let ya know what's going on. Hope all with John is going well and that he's happy!!

Hi, Will certainly be praying for good news in Jan. after John is back on your insurance and gets everything checked out. Jeff is doing very well in Goose Creek and loves it. On Oct. 17 he finished A school and became a Petty Officer. His next 6 months of Power School will start in Jan. In the meantime they do what is called T-Track. (which means stand extra watches, clean, polish, repeat, repeat, repeat.) While I miss him terribly, I am just so thrilled he finally found his place to shine. (no pun intended). Nice to hear from you and hope things continue to go well for your family. Pat
