About me:
I am a homeschooling mom with four teenagers - three at home since yesterday! Guess I will have to get used to saying, "I have three teenagers at home and one in the Navy".
I am so thankful to have found this website. GO NAVY!!
My child's FIRST name only (No Last Names Please!):
Jim
My son/daughter is:
Enlisted, Overseas
I was the proudest of my child when:
He chose the Navy because he decided that it offered him the best opportunity for his future in terms of skills and benefits.
When my son/daughter first spoke about joining the service I:
Encouraged him/her
As a new Navy mom, the most important thing I learned was:
It's hard to send your son off to boot camp!!
My son/daughter is currently in the service or retired, and now I believe:
Our relationship has grown stronger, The Navy has a lot to offer
For those who have fought for it, freedom is a taste the protected will never know.

HONOR...simply put, a VETERAN - whether Active Duty, Retired, National Guard or Reserve - is someone who, at one point in their life, wrote a blank check made payable to "The United States of America" for an amount of "Up to and including my life". That is HONOR, and there are way too many people in this country who no longer understand that.

Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.

Your good mother tells me you are feeling very badly in your new situation. Allow me to assure you it is a perfect certainty that you will, very soon, feel better -- quite happy -- if you only stick to the resolution you have taken to procure a military education.... On the contrary, if you falter, and give up, you will lose the power of keeping any resolution, and will regret it all your life.

Jim got his first duty station information today!

Well, I don't know exactly why, but I have been crying off and on since Jim called this afternoon. His orders came today and he is SO excited. He is going to be stationed just outside of London. I knew that was his first choice, but his second choice was the Washington, DC area and I figured with all the Intelligence agencies there, that he'd probably be there. I'm really happy for him because he has wanted to live in Europe for awhile.....even thought about backpacking around the summer after h… Continue

Jim got his medical waiver!!

Praise God!! My son, Jim, called yesterday to say that the Admiral had signed his waiver! "Jim, have you actually seen it?", I asked. He said, "I have a copy!" "Praise God! Wow, how do you think that happened?" "I know, Mom, it was a God thing. I have given up my illusion that I have control over my life." We are so thankful!! Jim has been on Ship 17 THU since graduating from boot camp on May 30th. It's been a struggle for him to keep his spirits up - afraid that he might not get his medical wa… Continue

PIR May 30th - Thank you, Lord!!

Good news update on our son, Jim. He called us Friday night to say that he had passed his final PT run, will do Battle Stations on Wednesday night, and PIR on Friday, May 30th - only one week later that planned. I am so thankful! Things looked bleak for Jim when he was unexpectedly removed from training, recommended for separation because of his medical history of ADHD, and sent to Ship 17. He was there for 7 days while his case went through the chain of command. I have run off pages Continue

Praise God - Jim is being allowed back in recruit training!!

Thank you, thank you, thank you to everyone who prayed with us for our son, Jim, who was recommended for separation from the Navy due to his medical history of ADHD. He went to see another Navy psychiatrist today. She determined that he is fit for military service, and he gets to start training again right where he was -- Day 6-2. She found that he can perform his military duties without posing a risk to anyone else. She cleared him for ANY job - even Air Crew if he still want to do that. He wa… Continue

Ellen, I am so sorry about your sister. What kind of brain cancer does she have?Does she live in New York, that she is getting treated at Sloan Kettering? It is a small world. My mom had a rare brain cancer called CNS Lymphoma, and was treated at Sloan Kettering. My mom was 83 however, and the stats for people under 60 are much better than for an 83 year old.
My sister Laura just told me a friend of hers was being treated at Sloan for lymphoma, I wonder if they know each other? My sis is very active in environmental issues and met that friend thru her.
I will remember to pray for your sis. I know how I would feel in this situation. Lord God please give Eileen a miracle, give her doctors, nurses, all caregivers wisdom from you, bless her and keep her safe from any side effects or complications. In Jesus name I pray. Amen

My rocky patch has been going for a few years now. Things get harder as you get older. I doubt my husband will be able to work again. The economy is so bad, I hope Matt will be able to find a job.
We had Thanksgiving with my sister and her family so we enjoyed ourselves. One of her sons had it at his house, so it helped cope with our first Thanksgiving without my mom. Change in routine was good.

Matt is still out of work. Mike my husband went out on disability again, as he was not keeping up well at work, still having speech issues when stressed. So both lost their Walmart jobs. What I think about Walmart is unprintable. So for now we are surviving on my Social Security Disability.
So happy for you and your son's success. Happy Thanksgiving.

Ellen, This website is wonderful, isn't it? I'm so glad I found it. Everyone is so helpful.

I haven't heard from my son since last week when he called me. He didn't know yet what was going to happen next with his situation. I have phone numbers to call but I told him I would wait to hear from him before I take the next step. Did your son get to graduate with his group?

im not sure when john has to report to RAF molesworth. all i know is that he graduates C school on dec 12th. whats ur sons job? john is an IS. hes actually coming home for thanksgiving and i think hes gonna take leave after C school so we can have more time together. i think it would be better for him to take leave now rather than over the summer bc i can go visit him more easily over the summer. im not sure how ur sons days work but john has four days on four off so i think that leaves traveling time. hope all is well with him! and we were thinking skype also. he was also told vonage is something to look into

Hi Ellen,
You were a huge part in my life and will remain a huge part. Your strength, prayers and scriptures gave me sooo much you will never know. There were days when my heart hurt and I prayed and thanked God for your words of encouragement. I am so happy to hear you had a fantastic time with your son and that he is happy. I hope you continue to stay on, I have seen the encouragement you have given to other moms and its fantastic. I don't know what is causing the GB, I wish I knew and all I can do is pray that there is an end to this or we find out what is going on SOON.
Always your friend, Frieda
