Proud Navy Ma

Profile Information

About me:
I am 39 years old and remarried to a great guy for 6 years. Our family is a work in progress - figuring out all the whole blended family thing. I have 2 children - my 19 yr old daughter who is in the Navy and a 13 yr old son aspiring to be like his big sister.
My child's FIRST name only (No Last Names Please!):
Meaghan
My son/daughter is:
Enlisted
I was the proudest of my child when:
When she graduated bootcamp. She grew up so much. It was nice to see her so level-headed and confident. Something she had never been before.
When my son/daughter first spoke about joining the service I:
Was proud, Was relieved, Encouraged him/her
As a new Navy mom, the most important thing I learned was:
The most important thing I learned was how much I missed my daughter. Going through the whole teenage experience was rough on her and I and we drifted apart. Her joining the Navy allowed her to grow and become confident. Her enlisting in the Navy has allowed me to appreciate her in ways that were lost.
My son/daughter is currently in the service or retired, and now I believe:
Our relationship has grown stronger, This was a maturing experience, This was the best decision he/she could have made

Hi Dawn,
Thanks for the message. It's always nice to connect with someone back home. I feel for you not being able to have contact with Meaghan. It makes it tough. Boot camp was enough for me. My daughter Brit just got assignment to Sicily so she will be far away but we should still be in steady contact. We had heer come down to Mexico and stay with us the 3 months prior to deployment and we just loved having her here and all our neighbors jsut loved her as well. She was the best water volley ball player !! It wasn't too hard to out shine a bunch of retirees ;-) Having her here was wonderful but it made me miss her all the more when she left for boot camp. Plus our out-going and incoming mail takes much longer unless you catch someone heading to the states to mail for you but the incoming is not as great.
I will check out the Maine iac site. There are a couple I have to back out of first. Just too many emails to deal with. Are you a native Mainer?
I was getting home at least once a year for many many years but now the immediately family is gone with only cousins left. I do still try to get up there for class reunion every 5 years. Lewiston High School Class of 67.
Love your pictures. Meaghan is a cutie and she looks to be happy.

If your looking to retire in a few years you might consider Mexico. It is the #1 retirment location for the last few years. We are down here in the Ajijic / Lake Chapala area in the state of Jalisco. Living here for 2 1/2 years now. Able to retire early due to the lower cost of liveng. We're a 4 hour drive inland from Puerto Vallarta and 3 hours from Manzanillo. We live in the mountains with spring like weather year around and there is no need for heat or airconditioning. Not too shabby. We absolutly love it here.
Chat with you later,
Janet

Dawn, is there any way to let the moms of the strike group ships that support TR know that they are welcome on our group too??? I think a lot of them stay away thinking we ONLY want to talk to TR moms. For my money, those supporting ships are as big a part of us as we are and they should be able to find support, fellowship and comfort with us!!! What do you think?

Aww tell your daughter they're just jealous!!! They tease her because she's such a great sailor...and she's pretty darn cute on top of it!!! Danny told me there were a lot of 'hotties' on the ship - yep, he does look!!! I think it would be so great for all of our kids could find each other. I just keep giving Danny names, ranks and locations as best as I can, so at least he knows names to look for...the only problem is is that they all go by their last names, and most of the times I don't know the name to tell him to look for!!! I'm sure your daughter has probably told you the same thing! My family is adopting Danny's line shack for Christmas - 18 sailors in all - and when he sent me the list, it was all by their rank/rate and their last name. I emailed him and asked him if there was any way he could give a MOMMA the first names, and he laughed and told me he would try to get them, but since they didn't use them, he really didn't know them by their first name...isn't that SAD?!?!

Hi Dawn! Happy almost Friday!!! Lord, I think I've had a week of Mondays, so I can't wait for this week to be over with!!! How are you - how's your pretty sailor doing? Hear from her lately? Danny is well, hot and tired and in need of some homemade food. I followed Deborah's advice and told him he was going to have to hunt down Megan and get some of that bread that she spent the day baking and praying over when it gets there. He just loved that idea and thought it was hysterical! He tells me, "Mom, I think ya'll are having more fun on your Navy moms site than us kids ever did on myspace!!!" lol-he's probably right, because we all have a common goal - supporting our beloved Sailors!!! Anyway gal, hope this finds you doing well. Have a great evening, and I hope to hear from ya soon!
