About me:
I'm the mother of David, 25, my recruit in Div 929 Ship 06 and of Lauren, 26, who works in NYC in invesment banking at UBS. I live with my husband Greg in Stamord, CT (and Chocolate Lab, Timber) . My husband and I are realtors in Stamford after being in banking in NYC for 25 years.
My child's FIRST name only (No Last Names Please!):
David
My son/daughter is:
Enlisted
I was the proudest of my child when:
He was born and every second thereafter!
When my son/daughter first spoke about joining the service I:
Needed to learn more about it
As a new Navy mom, the most important thing I learned was:
That Dave would willingly call and write and miss us so much!
My son/daughter is currently in the service or retired, and now I believe:
Our relationship has grown stronger, This was a maturing experience, The Navy has a lot to offer, This was the best decision he/she could have made

I come from the banking world, as well. I was the Human Resourced Director at a couple of banks in Northwest Indiana. My bank was purchased (what else is new!) and over the past few years I've been a senior recruiter in banking, finance and accounting working with The Mergis Group in Chicago.

Our son David's PIR was this past Friday 5/23. He was in the Color Guard holding the POW flag in his own ceremony. David starts A Schoo Hospital Corpsman in a week and a half. He left the boot camp yesterday and moved into the Great Lakes section for A School yesterday. He has a dorm room with another sailor...they share one bath with four boys...movie theatre...bowling alley...and Lake Michigan beach!

Barb,
Dave is going to A school in Pensacola and will be training as an Aviation technician--he eventually wants to fly but has to finish 2 more years of college and go back to school for his pilots license--I wish I knew more about the career paths!!!! Where is Tyler going to A school and what program?

Hi Anne, my son Tyler is also in your son's division. Does he know what he will do in the Navy? See you at PIR.

Teresa,
They have told us that Dave's A school will last from 15 to 26 weeks depending on which branch of Aviation Tech he chooses. I think if he gets into the Aircrew program which is what he wants (please God!) it will be more like 26 weeks or 6 months.

He's a beach bum at heart--he's been a lifeguard for the last 7 summers, and can't wait to get to FL. I think he's under the illusion that he's going to be basking on the beach in between classes.... boy is he in for a rude awakening! That would be great for Chris and Dave to meet so they'll know eachother before they head off to FL. Since we're all staying at the Navy Lodge we should be able to!

Hi Anne, How long is Dave's A school in Pensacola? Chris is going to A school for IT, which is computers for the Navy Intelligence. His school is 96 days. My gut feeling is that is 96 school days. I don't think Chris realizes that. I think he is thinking 12 weeks and thats it. He wants to be based in San Diego and he wants shore duty. He doesn't want a ship right away. I was told that if he graduated at the top 5 in his class, that they would give them choice. So he has a little fire under his brain when he gets there. I hope Chris and Dave have a chance to meet. Hello Anne, I am Teresa Crawford and my son is Chris Johnston. He is PIR 6-6 and we are staying at the Navy Lodge also. Chris will be leaving for Pensacola for A school after graduation. Becky is one of my friends and I came across one of your posts. What is your son's job for the Navy? I am so excited it is getting closer. Teresa

Yes Anne, I am going to meet up at the Ramada Inn on the 5th at 6or 6:30 PM. It will be fun to meet everyone. My son is going to Mississipi for "A" school. Iwish he could come home for awhile until the school starts. But, I am glad I will be able to text him and talk to him on a daily basis during that time. Have a great day! Becky
