About me:
I am a single mom - with two boys, Kevin - currently serving the Navy in A- School in Groton, CT, and Michael a sophomore at Marquette University, studying Mechanical Engineering.
My child's FIRST name only (No Last Names Please!):
Kevin
My son/daughter is:
Enlisted
I was the proudest of my child when:
He marched into that hall at graduation, on May 16th, 2008 - He'd made it through boot camp-Only the tough survive that!
When my son/daughter first spoke about joining the service I:
Was concerned or afraid, Needed to learn more about it, Was proud
As a new Navy mom, the most important thing I learned was:
All we can do is Pray...A lot!
My son/daughter is currently in the service or retired, and now I believe:
Our relationship has grown stronger, This was a maturing experience, The Navy has a lot to offer

The type, style, and color of the blanket/afghan is totally up to you and your creativity. The only hard and fast rule is it must be twin bed size or smaller. (The "racks" or beds are like twin bed size.) Of course you will want to make it tasteful and/or appropriate. I don't see that as a problem with our moms though. If you need or want free crochet patterns I posted a website on the group page and another mom post directions on how to make the fleece blankets if you are interested in that. Send me your address in a private message and I can hook you up with supplies if you want. Ttyl... :)

Hi Vicki, Let me know if you would like supplies to make the blankets/ afghans. I have several moms that want to donate supplies and we can cooridinate with them to get you what you need. When you finish the blanket/afghan, let me know and you can send it to me to be sent to the ship. I am looking at sending them out once a month at the end of the month beginning in Jan. 2009. That will give us time to get a bunch to be sent. If you have any ideas or suggestions let me. Thanks so much for your help.

Hey Vicki, you are probably an old pro at this stuff by now! What is Kevin going to be doing on a sub? Thanks for your inspiring and amusing comment. Boy! I hope you enjoyed that $100 cab ride! My husband would have keeled over!!! Our sons could cross paths some day! I will try to keep my (double) chin up, but sometimes my emotions just take over. I am so looking forward to PIR and praying that we all have a wonderful and memorable time together!!! Can you believe my husband has never flown???????

Dear Vicki,
I also live close to the water, two blocks from the beach. I know Kim is going to go nuts, staying in Chicago, and not swimming. I heard the sailors are swimming in the Virginia beach base, where Kim was suppose to go to for A school. Now it was changed to Chicago, instead. My kids are natural born fish. I feel bad for Kim.
Today there was a little breeze. I went to my Godson's Junior High School graduation, they're twins. Besides boring, the audotorium is so hot. There's only two fans there, like that's doing anyone a favor !!!
I guess that's it for the moment. You take care.

I am soooo glad that you had talked to Kevin!!! It is wonderful for you that he has a cell phone!!! that is good news, and thank you , Lewis is doing well, he is anxiously awaiting to see where he will be stationed, and awaiting to graduate!! He told us today when I talked to him he will be graduating the end of July now, July 26th or the 27th, but he was not sure. He said it changes all the time it seems!!! But it is ok. Well my friend I will be in touch real soon!! I am so happy for you!! Take care!
