Profile Information

About me:
I am 49-years-old and have been married for 34 years. My husband and I have three children and 11 grandchildren. Andrew is our youngest. "Drew" graduated from boot camp in June, and is currently waiting to class up for A School. With Andrew being our youngest, it makes it more difficult for me to let him go, because it is the first time in 32 years that we have no children at home. I have been a mom for so long, and Drew is the last to leave. It has definitely been a roller coaster ride, yet we are so very proud of our boy!
My child's FIRST name only (No Last Names Please!):
Andrew (Drew)
My son/daughter is:
Enlisted
I was the proudest of my child when:
I was proudest of Andrew when he took charge of his life and joined the Navy. I am also proud of him every single time I talk to him, because I can hear the pride and maturity in his voice. He truly has grown a tremendous amount in the last 10 months (3 Months DEP).
When my son/daughter first spoke about joining the service I:
Was concerned or afraid, Needed to learn more about it, Was proud, Encouraged him/her
As a new Navy mom, the most important thing I learned was:
My dad was in the Navy, so I believe it's a really good branch of the service. My husband has been a civilian employee for the DOD working on Submarines for 34 years, and our oldest son has been doing the same for 7 years. I do have faith in the Navy ... they generally do tend to take care of their people.

I have learned over the last 6 months that Andrew is indeed an adult, and as such, he needs to make his own decisions. I am proud to say that he is doing quite well at it, too! At this point in his life, we have completed our job of raising him, hopefully with good morals and values, and our main job now is to be here supporting and affirming him whenever he calls.
My son/daughter is currently in the service or retired, and now I believe:
Our relationship has grown stronger, This was a maturing experience, The Navy has a lot to offer, This was the best decision he/she could have made

Drew is back in CT

Andrew has been home for the last week while on hold from A School. While home, he has been so active, which is so unlike what he was before he joined the Navy. Before Navy he was ALWAYS at home. Now he is always out. While I was happy that he was going out, I couldn't help feel that I was being "Shut out." When I would ask him where he was going he would say, "I'm an adult now. I've lived on my own." He's 20. He didn't stay out really late, maybe 1:00 am, and not every night. He watched movies… Continue

Unexpected Phone Call

Yesterday I received a phone call from California! That was unexpected for me. At first I thought, "Another bill collecter?" Since Dennis's serious illnes last year we have not been able to catch up. It was a good thing I picked up the phone. She said that her name was Darcy, and she was from California. Then she said, "I have your son's Navy pictures." I replied with a stunned and disappointed, "Whhhaaat? Oh No." Drew graduated on June 20th, and I still have not seen his pictures, which of cour… Continue

Sorta Bad Day for Mom

Today was a kind of bad day. I know it sounds silly, but my husband and I went grocery shopping (bi-weekly) for the first time since Drew left. It started out okay, but before you knew it I just needed very badly to get out of there. I kept seeing all of Drew's favorite foods, foods I would often buy for him (he loves turkey pepperoni), and then since January trying so hard to buy things he would like that would help him make the body fat ratio, like flavored Aquafina water, edible pea pods, etc… Continue

No Sam could not make it home this Thanksgiving. But he will be here for the New Year and for his birthday. He called to tell us Happy Thanksgiving. And he's staying with a friend in Virgina. I'm very blessed to have him be with someone who has been friends with him before they got to the Navy. I truly thank God for that. And I'm so blessed to have you as my friend. You and Andrew are in my prayers day and night. God Bless You.

He has 4 days at Thanksgiving and I could not come so I am sending him to Vermont with some friends for those days. then he comes home on Dec 18th and stays until the 26th. Has Duty at 7 am the 27th. My brother is coming so that everyone can see him. He said his class may not start until after Jan 1 becasue it was not full. I think. As for Chris he does not want a fast attack sub so he says that is all they have in Guam and Hawaii. Although I think he would like to live there he just wants the predictability of the 3 months out 3 months back. he says he will go to school and finihs his bachelors so who knows. he texted the other day that he was outside and it was 26 and it was not too bad. live and learn Have a good holiday Hugs

Hey lady, good news today all Dana's test results are in and everything is good and still cancer free. Thank god. My nephew found out that what he has is bleeding ulcers, which is a much better diagnosis than pancreactic cancer. So things are looking pretty good on this end for a change in the medical end of it any way. Adam will not be coming home for Christmas, he just can not afford the price of the plane tickets. It would cost him about 1000.00 just for the flight. I told him it was a wise decision not to put in on a credit card. he has had to buy furniture and everything that newly weds have to buy so his money is tight, he is only a E3 so they don't make that much. Hope you are doing okay. Talk with you later......HUGS Kathie

Hi Dianne,,,Jason and his wife are renting a place in Jacksonville NC..Things are going pretty well for them. I just sent his Jeep down to him last week..Thats not very cheap,,I can tell you !! It took a week for it to get there. But anyway,, the snow is flying up here from time to time. Im trying to get things ready for winter and trying to do some deer hunting as well. There's not to many deer around up here. Last winter really took a toll on them.. But,,I just like to be outside..I hope all is well with you and your family...Stay in touch ....Jon

Hey girl friend, how are you today? I hope you got caught up on your papers. I'll bet that nap you had was worth it. Sometimes we just have to cater to ourself. Hey have you found out when Drew is going back to base yet? I guess Josh's friends are not coming with him now, so I am still trying to help with the ride situation. Don't fret over it if Drew can't do it he can just take the train and the bus back, just thought I'd check before we reserved his tickets. Thanks hunnie.....Kathie
