Div 233 Ship 09 Wins Captain's Cup!!

Woooo Hooooo, I just got another phone call home from Andrew! He was soooo pumped up. He said that his division won the Captain's Cup today and they were awarded with Pizza Hut, taco bell and he had just finished playing pool for 3 1/2 hours. He was soooooo excited. He said they won it in the last event which was the fire fighting drill which he was part of. He was over the moon excited. He told me not to worry about battle stations, it will be a breeze for them!! Wow, I cant wait to see him!

It's Official, I now have two children in the U.S. Navy!!

Wow, it is hard to believe but my Step-Daughter who lives with us 100% of the time has decided to join the US Navy. She is currently on her way home from MEPS. She left last night for the ASVAB test etc. She called me about an hour ago and said it is official. She has enlisted into the DEP program and will be completing her Senior year in high school and then shipping out on July 15, 2009!! I could hear the joy and excitment in her voice over the phone. Her job position is hospital corpsman/dent… Continue

Ann, Thanks for the quick response. I hope I can convince her. She has a problem going against any "rules". By the way congratulations to your son and your family.

Ann, My daughter is at GL and is scheduled for PIR 08-01-08. I have 7 family members that want to go to PIR. Did more then 4 people go for your son's PIR. My mom just will not go to Chicago if she isn't allowed to see PIR. Any information you have would be appreciated.

Ann - I am so glad that Andrew called you and his GF. I know I bugged Jason enough about telling Andrew to call. He said ma Andrew is in here where I am, I said go tell him now. I know the guys are so amazed how we work around things here on the website to get in touch with them.

Oh Ann, I don't mean to worry you. I just meant to inform you. It is possible that Jason's information is incorrect, also Jason and Andrew were not in the same division so it may be different. I always said to myself during boot camp and even now, if something was wrong then I'd be getting a call. (I even said to myself sometimes, that no news is good news.) I'm sure Andrew willl call within the next couple of days. Let me know. Stay strong and have a good day.

Hi Ann, it's Pat again. I just shut down my computer for the night and then the phone rang. It was Jason, he couldn't talk long but the call was good and thought I'd let you know some possible information about Andrew so I ran to put my computer back on. If Jason is correct with his information, he said everyone who graduated on June 27th and was going to Pensacola left today. Jason said he couldn't call until now because they were unpacking and doing other "stuff." I told Jason to call me on Friday and he said ok. Did you hear from Andrew? Let me know when you do. Talk to you soon.

If I hear anything I'll keep you informed too. Jason told me he has liberty on the 4th of July so I guess that would hold for all of the division but I'm not sure. I figured if I didn't hear anything today hopefully by Friday. I don't know if they can use the phone today. I don't know if Jason was really supposed to call but he called from the airport waiting for his flight. It was a quick call but he also called his father quickly then went to eat something before he boarded. Maybe Andrew didn't call because it was rather early in the morning? I hope you get to hear from him soon.

Thanks...He felt so bad, especially since he made it through the actual battle stations itself. Some of his shipmates apologized for not being there for him and letting him fall asleep. Some of the guys told me they were keeping each other awake but ryan was in the front row and I guess they didn't see him dose off. I was talking to some parents (of different div) and they said their sons said that some got away with falling asleep but oh well just makes ryan a little more aware..I'm just so glad everything worked out. Hope everyone sons head to A school soon and do as well as boot camp.

LOL--Me too with the crying, well what can one expect from a Navy mom. Jason is going to Pensacola so he may be with Andrew. If you find out anything about the flight please let me know because I tried searching and couldn't find anything. Are you sure they flew out on American? I know they flew Jason over to IL on American. We didn't do too bad with the traffic. Each day (2) we went into Chicago it took about an hour. (One day was Monday, when my sister and I were going to fly home that night so we didn't have to fight the traffic back.) I know when Jason's father took him back to base it took them over 2 hours to get back to GL. They made sure they left in plenty of time to make sure Jason would not be late getting back, then Jason wanted to go on the computer anyway. My sister and I stayed in Chicago and went back to the Navy pier after the aquarium for the evening. We took the bus then the metro then a cab to get back to the lodge. We didn't get back to the lodge until 2:30m am after a fire works show that ended at 10:30. We had to wait almost an hour for the train and it was the last one to run to GL. Then we got up at 6:30 am to make sure we were ready when Jason called. That's ok the long weekend was nice.

Hi Ann, just got back late last night, 4 hours of flight plus 5 hours of driving-uggh. My daughter was joking that the pilot should have just made a drop over Spokane, she looked down and saw our house/community on the way to Seattle. (We had left the 2 little brothers and the dog over there, had to pick them up then backtrack!) I surprised myself by crying as we took off, it was too hard to see the Chicago skyline disappear and know I won't see him until October!! How are you doing? Andrew looked great in his uniform, they all did!

Mark is seriously considering changing from reserve status to active after "A" school and going straight to "C" school in CA! yikes. I may be asking you to "adopt" my sailor. :-) He is training to be a Hospital Corpsman; once they are done with "A" they are basically at a nurses/dental assistant level. "C" takes them to a EMT or LPN level I believe. He wants to do FMF- field medic- the Marines don't have their own Corpsmen, so they use the Navy's. Sailors have the option of choosing to "Go Green" and wear those uniforms as well.
The thought of that committment does scare me, but he seemed so focused and confident of his direction and plans this weekend. I just have to trust his choices and pray for God's protection on him.

Congrats to your Step-daughter, on to round two!! You are a wiser "old" mom now, you will be such a blessing to her PIR group!! It was great to meet you, you have a wonderful family! Pat's right, your tod is adorable. =) I have that picture I took of all of you immediately following PIR, I'm going to try and download everything tonight. Gotta go tackle all the laundry, then repack, we're supposed to go camping over the 4th of July weekend.

It would be cool to be there for all the festivities next week, but I'm pretty glad we didn't have to travel over a Nat'l holiday. Don't know that we could have all lasted another week either, but it would have been less stressful on all of you who had last minute BS!! We got such great weather, can you believe our good fortune? Did you get a better chance to explore Chicago after all? Sorry about the length of this post, I'm sure we'll chat soon. Take care. :)

Hi Ann, Congratulations on Andrew's graduation and his division winning the captain's cup. Jason said his division came in third. It was so nice meeting you at the PIR dinner at Flanagan's. I just got a phone call this morning at 6 am from Jason saying he was at O'Hare airport waiting to fly out to A school. They have a change over in Atlanta, GA. I didn't get many details on the flight because I only got home from Great Lakes at 1 am this morning and had little sleep while I was visiting so I was in a deep sleep when he called and wasn't thinking to ask many questions. Andrew is probably on the same flight. Do you know, have you heard from him, do you have any flight info.? I really enjoyed PIR and visiting the Chicago, Great Lakes area with my son. Of course I cried again when I had to say good bye Sunday evening. Talk to you soon. PS your little one is adorable.
