When my son/daughter first spoke about joining the service I:
Was proud, Was relieved, Encouraged him/her
As a new Navy mom, the most important thing I learned was:
Keep an open mind and ask questions! Talk to the recruiter, surf the internet, read "Honor, Courage, Commitment". The more you as a parent know going into this, the more aware you can be about what your child is experiencing. (You'll also start being able to pick up on that wonderful Navy jargon!)
My son/daughter is currently in the service or retired, and now I believe:
Hey there he passed BS YEAH I now have a sailor he finally called at 5:30 tonight they have been up for over 35 hours so I cant wait to see him tomorrow he says he wants buffalo wild wings, a computer and his phone in no particular order. lol
update on chris he wrote today and must have seen the Dr after my last conversation with him and they have him on crutches they found something in the foot sounds like another fracture they missed 4 weeks ago in the talar neck bone he is getting down at this point lost his petty officer job due to the crutches. He just wants it to be over which I know but he did not have this going in so they should fix it and he should see it through. He thinks it will either get fixed or medically seperated which I hope does not happen
We camped every vacation when our kids were little, and have many great memories of those times. After tent camping a week in the rain with 3 kids 1 dog and 1 tent, we broke down and bought a pop-up trailer. That was the best investment we ever made! It's still camping... just better :) I enjoy hiking a lot, because when I hike I don't think about anything else except whats around me. The perfect thing to release any stress and worry. I climbed Mt. St. Helens a few years ago with both sons... THAT was about as steep as I will ever go.
This will be his first time. His dad climbed it and made it to the summit when we moved to Washington. It's something my husband has been wanting our sailor to do with him for years, so dad was thrilled when sailor son called last week and asked to do that with him. Just so happens our other son will be coming home from school Japan in August and wants to join them. Do you like to hike?
Wow. That's exciting that he's coming home for 2 weeks. Will his training be done, or is it just a break between schools? My sailor says he thinks hes coming home in August for leave, and he want's to climb Mt. Rainier with dad.
Nice looking son.
Where did you say he was.
I see they all like to go bowling.
We will keep him in our prayers.
We will also keep your family in our prayers.
Keep me up dated on what is going on.
This sight has been a blessing.
Chris called yesterday talked for over 20 minutes strangest phone call I have ever had with him. He sounded so calm and secure but he kept on talking like he did not want to hang up. He says his shins are better and he is in walking stage with running to start on monday then they will evaluate and either send him back to a division or keep him in medical. He also says he has somekind of infection on his toe that they are treating got it in the shower. Well anyway he said he sould fine out really soon what and how long it will be but he feels strong. He sounded so grown up!
