About me:
My name is Stephanie and I live in Modesto California. My son left for Boot Camp in Great Lakes from San Jose Ca on March 10th 2008. He is in Ship 13 Div 172 and is scheduled as of now to PIR on May 2nd. He has signed on to be a Machinest Mate on the Big Ships. His preferance was to do submarines however apparently due to his eyesight not being correctable to 20/20 and can only be fixed by Lasik to 20/30 he was not eligable for many different jobs that he was interested in which made me very sad as he had scored Extreamly high on his ASVAB..damm Genes!! LOL He got my mothers eyes. I am still having a very difficult time with him being gone. He is my only child and I have been mother and father to him since his father ran like the wind when he was 18 months old and we have not heard from him since. So this is a very very hard transition for me. I have not recieved a letter yet but have written him. I am very glad to have found this site to connect with others dealing with the same things I am. In fact I called his recriuter today and scolded them. I know they deal with alot of needy mothers such as myself so I asked them if they were aware of the site. The recruiter said yes. I said well then FOR GODS SAKE WHY DIDNT YOU TELL ME!! LOL I know it would have made me alot calmer about alot of things if someone had told me about it. So hopefully now they will do so and continue to spread the word. Its great to have an outlet such as this.

My child's first name:
Nick
My son/daughter is:
Enlisted
I was the proudest of my child when:
I realized he was trying to do something Noble with his live as opposed to his friends who I have seen stagnate since HS graduation.
When my son/daughter first spoke about joining the service I:
Was concerned or afraid, Was confused, Needed to learn more about it
As a new Navy mom, the most important thing I learned was:
To just be patient... the answers will come..

My son/daughter is currently in the service or retired, and now I believe:
The Navy has a lot to offer, This was the best decision he/she could have made

This is the blog I found on my son's Myspace page..it was written at 4:30 am the morning he was about to be put on a plane to Bootcamp.. I was actually feeling slightly calmer until I found it.. You wonder what is going through their minds as they are about to embark into this new adventure and chapter of their lives.. I was lucky enough to see EXACTLY what he was feeling.... I still cry when I read it...

Six Hours
Current mood: restless

Six Hours from my life, Six Hours from my future, Six Hours from being Proud, and Six Hours to Wait.

My mind doesnt sleep during the night as I slumber, and my soul yearns for the existance of another presence to hold me as I wake. Death is now a constant fear that haunts me with its trickery. This present state of mind that I have acquired can only humor me for the while, until I can clear it before my insanity tears through what used to be my calm.

It seems it is about ten minutes now until I must be weighed and and measured before I go to slaughter. So in order to reveal some of my feeling I thought I would vent here, trying to gain some calm for my mind, but it will not come.

Why I have been MIA...sorry..guys I suck..lol

First of all thank you for all the messeges and wondering where I have been since Nicks PIR.. I have had a flurry of activity since we got home. Our trip to Great Lakes was actually almost a week long. Mom and I took a Red Eye out of San Francisco..flew all night in HORRIABLE turbulance.. had to get our car Rental then drive to our hotel. We checked in around 830am and were both passed out unconcious but 10am..slept for several hours then both woke up to go to our PIR dinner with our Aweso Continue

Hi Stephanie,
I saw your comment on the site about your son not wanting to spend money on anything but video games and had to laugh because that is sooo my son. He even bought an xbox after he got out of boot camp and he has it in his room in Great lakes at A school. Loved seeing your pictures. Your son reminds me alot of my son Kyle. I saw you went to Bubba Gumps at Navy Pier after the PIR. We did too and have a funny story about a rat. Let me know if you want to hear more. Anyway would love to add you to my friends list. I also wish I would have been told about this website by the recruiters or somebody. They did give me a card about a military mom support group: operationmom.org. It is for any military branch. It is nice but I feel I relate more to this site. Where is your son now. Did he go to A school?

Hi Stephanie, I'm back home now my son has been moved to Ship 06 for 2-3 weeks of therapy before joining up with a new division, but he loved the fact that online I have met such wonderful women. Will you be posting any pictures from the Thursday night dinner?
