Picked up Josh yesterday from the Reserve Station in Shreveport, LA. He looked good and was hungry of course!! His grandmother and I were there
to get him and drilled him on his situation. It turns out he did not pass his last
Corps. test and was let go. He was in the Holding Unit for Reserves until let go this past Tuesday. He is having an awful time with his hip/knee/foot and has a
knee brace for now. We will be going to get it x-rayed soon. He says they never have x-rayed since he has been in GL. Just recommended therapy. PT agrevated it more so that is why he got LD. He will be doing his monthly Reserve work still, while getting a regular civilian job. He says in 18 months he can apply for A school again. He signed up for 8 years of Reserves when he enlisted. It is good to have him home. Trying to spoil him with his fav. foods and other goodies. He did get up this morning at 7 and ran a mile in the rain. He said it hurts his leg but he feels he has to keep up with his PT. Hopes he keeps it up. Well, just wanted to keep everyone informed. Thanks for the prayers and support.

Josh was called up last week for his indock for his reserve unit. He had injured his knee when he first started boot camp. Since he has been home and has had problems with it a few days in BC they gave him therapy: an orthopedic surgeon friend of ours did a free exam and xray and discovered a medial meniscious tear and said he needed surgery. His medical doc in the reserves read his record for boot camp and said the doctor who examined him there noted that Josh had told him that he had twisted it while in college. The result from the Navy is that they will not do a thing to help him since it is from previous injury, even though when he was going through his physical for boot camp they never diognosed any issues. It seems to me that they are trying to find an excuse not to help him. The CO of his reserve unit also stated that they have another scum there, and he will serve the next 71/2 years of reserve training without a skill and will spend his duty each month cleaning the reserve unit because he is injured. I thought a whole lot more of the Navy and very dissapointed of the news. My kid is 20 years old, I can't cover him under insurance because he is not a student, and he is unable to work in a job suitable for a non-degreed adult because he is unable to stand and walk for more than 4 hours at a time. I thought a lot of the Navy until I discovered this. Can anyone give us some advice?
P.S.
He got a letter from the Dept. of Defense last week stating he was overpaid and he must pay $50 a month in installments until that debt is paid off.

How is your son doing?
I finally heard from my son and he is headed back to GL for more training after holding in Texas after he didn't pass A school. He will be able to finally come home (after six months of being gone) and then he will head to Japan.

My son is in holding - he has not taken leave nor has he asked for it. I saw him for a couple of hours when he graduated from boot camp. He also suffered from an injured knee in boot camp.
He said he will be returning to Great Lakes for training, but I do not know when that will be. He still hasn't received word. He seems to be fine with the break from the intensive schooling.
