Hey thanks for the link to the USS Makin Island!! My son was doing vert reps on deck a few weeks ago....and his helo is in some of those pics!!! How very cool!!!

Fran the Ombudsman for the Cleveland (which is attached to the BHR) called it "River City". A new term for me, seems they were down for a while also. All is good and they are back up now.

Got a message from the BHR ombudsman that communications are down for awhile and that everything is fine. Looking forward to hearing from them again.

Hi Moms....just joined and just back from San Diego where my sailor is an ABH yellow shirt on the newly Commissioned USS Makin Island LHD 8. I'm sure your sailor has heard about the Makin.

Sisi, there might only be six of us, but we could be mighty! I know on the Moms of daughters site here at Navy for Moms there are a couple of moms who have daughters on the Kearsarge.

These are the cookies I made him last night to send lol. Also I decided to make a candy bouquet(I think I spelled that right). I made sure he had enough room to store it though. I put his favorite candies in it and made the pie in a jar from the above discussion. I hope he enjoys his goodies. A nice taste of home is sure to cheer him up. Hes been "puffy" since hes been there. I know he is having a hard time meeting friends. He says he wishes he had his A School buddies back but oh well. He'll adjust over time

Laura, I will be sending magazines, snacks, candy, cards, a very small mini Christmas tree w/tiny bells on it ($8 at Big Lots and he can throw away when done), some tolietries and pictures of home to my son, along with a card letting him know that we will be putting monies in his acct. Hope some of this helps??

Can yall help me with this. Mybf wont be home for the holidays and will be on deployment. I was wondering what kind of gifts or goods i could send him to make him feel at home and appreciated. Can you please help.
