Hi Kim, the first few weeks are the hardest. Have you gotten your "sailor in a box" yet? Liza is correct, find your daughters ship or pir group on this site they help alot and remain active. My son has been in two years now as a Corpsman. What is your daughter's rate?

Hi Kim

Welcome to a wonderful experience for your Daughter and for you too.  There is not a lot of action on this site.  It's a shame.  If you haven't already, I suggest you spend your time on the bootcamp site and/or your PIR site.  If there isn't one yet, (probably not it's kind of soon), you yourself can start one.  That is where you will get the most information about what is going on with your daughter's group.

As soon as you know the date of their PIR (Pass in review), also known as BC grauation, you or some else can start one.  I started a group two years ago for my son's division and we are still going strong.  Have even had one of my friends to my house.  AND YES YOU DO BECOME FRIENDS!

Does your daughter know her rate yet ( what job she will have after graduation)?

Good luck to your Sailor and to you.  If I can be of any more help LMK.  :-)

Liza

Just wanted to say hi.  I am new to this.  My daughter just left for boot camp on Tuesday, 1/31.  I am from Newark.

Hi Kylesmom, you must be excited about graduation on Friday? Our son left for boot camp last Dec 12, 2010, graduated Feb 18, 2011 and just grad A school for AECF (FC) on October 7, 2011. He's now a Petty Officer 3rd Class and on hold at Great Lakes waiting for C school orders. He came home last Friday on leave for a week, his first time home since he left for boot! What's your son's rating? (job)

the box, I remember getting it. My son went to boot Nov 09, seems like a lifetime ago.For those starting out here's a suggestion I wish I did, create a timeline of specific dates and accomplishments. The longer you're here the dates seem to run together. Boot Grad, A school Grad (Corpsman here) first duty station (Camp Lejeune), etc. My son is a "greenside" corpsman with the Marines. We had no idea when he picked corpsman that he would deployed in the dessert with the Marines!
