I'm a Navy Wife and I created this group back when I was a girlfriend and my now husband had gone to bootcamp. Its funny because i joined this website when they had under 50 members. This website has been sooooo helpful and I met so many people on here that gave great advice. I made this group so that we could all come together and give eachother advice and share ideas. I see that this group is growing more and more by the day, Im happy to see that because so many wives/fiances/and girlfriends are clueless when it comes the military lifestyle. Not knowing what to expect and not knowing about deployments, bootcamp, duty stations, etc. I want this to be the place you all recommend because so many people on this site are knowledgeable and very helpful. Once again thanks for joining my group and i hope you get all the information you need. I dont get to log on as much as i used to but i try my best to get on here. So if u have any questions feel free to make a discussion topic and Im positive that it will get answered if not, inbox me :-) Take Care ♥

Thank you Jenn, helps a lot. I was worried about possibly school and everything. My nursing license is also in Fl and idk about crossing over yet. Since I do know this temporary and I don't want to mess up my residency.

Dina - BTW - FL residency is very beneficial for military personnel, tax-wise.  It's wise to keep that residency.  CA taxes military income for legal residents.

Dina - I kept my IL license and tags while we were in CA.  You can keep them, you do not have to become a resident of CA.  Make sure your car insurance provider knows your address (where the vehicle will be driven) though.  If you buy a car in CA, you can fill out a form and they waive the registration fees.  You can register it in CA for free then when you get to your home state, register it there (at the normal cost, most likely) and your car will be tagged from your home state.  We were considering buying a vehicle while we were there. Here is a link that might give you some info:

MSRRA

Also, some tax info Tax Topic

And some DMV info CA DMV - if you look at the first section, second bullet, #2, it states "...are permitted to operate a vehicle in this state with valid license plates from either ...The vehicle registration and license plates are issued to the military person or spouse of the military person. " (emphasis mine).

I know nothing about the college tuition, other than my husband told me I could finish my degree there at resident rates.

I hope that helps!!

Would I have to become a resident in California to pursue my graduate's degree?

Even though I read according to the Higher education opportunity act of 2008 as military spouse attending any public college or university I am entitled to the same cost offered to residents.

I don't want to lose my residency in Fl because this is our home, where I plan on living and raising my children. Our family is down here, especially my husband wanting to be closer to his elderly parents.

Also if I am technically not a resident as a non  resident military personnel if my plates and tags can be used from Fl so can my DL?

I checked the CA.gov/ CA highway patrol that stated for non resident military personnel a Driver's license from their state of domicile was valid. I just want to get feedback from other wives in the area, are you still driving with your home state's DL?

They don't get their orders until a few days before they PIR, that is when they will know which airport they are flying out of

Comment by mareso24 16 hours ago

Just planning ahead -- When do recruits find out what airport they are flying out of for A school? My boyfriend flew to O'hare to get to boot camp last Tuesday. Just wanted to make sure that when his family and I receive his form letter we can book a flight from the same airport.

Good morning ladies !! Xoxo

Does anyone know about how long it takes to get through the gate for PIR if you have a car ?

Nichole, don't go buy a smaller stroller, as Jenn said...all strollers have to be stowed.

Comment by Jenn_NicksWifey on Thursday

Nichole - I took a little stroller and they had me stow it anyway.  I was able to take it to the hall, but then had to carry her to our seats, I had to leave the stroller off to the side behind a curtain thing.  It makes sense because the seating is not very spacious.  It is bleacher style and the rows of bleachers are close together, so having a stroller up there is not practical.  Depending on which division your husband is in, you may only have to carry her a little ways or all the way to the end of the hall.  But you won't have to carry her from the car, so that's good.  You can get your stroller after the ceremony and use it when you go have lunch with your sailor at the NEX.

Also, those with recruits in bootcamp might benefit from some forums here on NavyForMoms.com geared towards the bootcamp experience.  If you search for groups called "PIR (DATE)" where the date is the graduation date, you will be able to connect with lots of people who also have a recruit in bootcamp graduating that day.  I met so many great people and when we went to PIR had people to talk to.  Also, you hear about letters and phone calls and news that maybe your recruit hasn't told you yet.  Super, SUPER helpful.
