I'm in for next year as well. I did get some cards from my friends local church, but did the stockings and bags on my own, which were sent to the Chosin. I didnt think to put my return address on anything, but signed the cards with our names and city and state. I hope to be able to do more next year, and plan to start earlier - like the after Christmas sales, so I will keep my eyes open to again be a part of this.

My sailor is still in A School in Pensacola - I dont have anyone I know deployed right now in this strike group. It was worth it all to be a part of this group and to "pay it forward"....

I sent 11 stockings to VFA41 storekeepers and 21 to VFA14 AE/AT shop. I don't have a sailor on the Nimitz however because my son is an AE and most of the F18 squadrons are on the same base he knows people on the Nimitz. He was on the Reagan, 4 cruises in 4 years, will be moving into a different job in March, he will be an instructor for 3 years working days and coming home to his family every night. I'm a happy mom!

Good idea, Debbie. I sent 100 to the VFA 41 section, my son is AO with VFA 41 (hope I can say that much).

WOW Pat that is wonderful, I hope she gets what she wants, Stephen still has a year to go in Italy, but I am sending him candy also, people who donated asked me to send him some, he said he would share we will see.LOL

Debbie, if Stephen is deployed next year we can certainly look into sending gifts to his ship. Ashley's orders are up next Dec so there's a chance she won't be in Hawaii next Christmas. She's looking at open billets on the USS Blue Ridge in Japan.

Oh, on Molly's group we started a thread so that people could post any contact from the sailors. This saves time from scrolling through previous posts trying to read them all. This way you don't miss ANY. I enjoy reading all the posts and hearing what they had to say. :)

I like the idea of leaving the room open too. This way if anyone hears back from the the sailors they can post it here if they'd like to share. Be sure to only post their frist name. :) I helped with the adoption of the USS Crommelin and I still hear from one of the sailors that received one of my care packages. I've learned alot about him and his family. He is anxiously waiting to go home. :)

I don't have a problem leaving the group open but will probably change the name as the Nimitz will not be deploying again for a quite awhile. By next summer we should be able to figure out which strike group will be deployed for Christmas 2010.

WHEW! I'm still in postage sticker shock, but will recover shortly. BUT -- all packages containing 360 (that includes some extras) goody bags and cards (with extra cards) are going by priority mail today. I also don't have anyone on the Nimitz. We even added a special card for the PAO with extra PB and cheese crackers in the last box. This was fun. I agree to both: keeping room open and active, and doing this again next year, but starting a little earlier. On the postage, I changed from the smaller boxes to 6 of the 20 x 14 (or so) boxes. It's supposed to be the largest the USPS sells -- at least here in our little town. Thanks for letting me -- well us be a part of this. :) Hope it's warmer where you are, or at least dryer! We're under flooding warnings till later today or tomorrow. Yuck!
