THE BUILDING OF LEMOORE NAS
In 1954, the Navy searched the Northern California-Nevada area for land to build a master jet air station - one with congestion free air space.
Lemoore was chosen because of its central location, good weather for flying, relatively inexpensive land and the nearby accommodations. Construction started in 1958. With base housing, administration facilities and the flight training areas in operation, the air station was commissioned on July 8, 1961.
Located in the San Joaquin Valley approximately 40 miles south of Fresno, CA, nearly 5,000 military and 1,000 civilian employees work onboard, with an average payroll of $120 million per year.
NAS Lemoore's primary mission is to support fleet carrier squadrons. The heart of this mission is the operations area. Designed to support more than twenty fleet squadrons, it serves as a master training center for carrier-based strike fighter squadrons of the United States Pacific Fleet.

Yes I was told from the other moms that cell phones don't work and that they need an international phone card. Also say they use Skype to communicate.

Comment by Barbara (Derek's Mom) 19 hours ago - My younger son was on a ship that stopped at Gitmo a few years ago. They were told not to even point a camera in the wrong direction. He said that there was all kinds of things to do on the base because they can't leave at all, they are very well self contained. My question, just out of curiosity: will he have to have an international cell phone plan? Best of luck to him, glad you get him home for Christmas!

- he's actually good with it. I have been trying to find swim wear and stuff--not the easiest to find here in November. LOL I was concerned at first, and then went to my reliable Navy for Moms in GTMO and they reassured me that all was good.

- Hi Jody how have you been, haven't heard from you in awhile. Where is your son going? How do you feel about him going overseas? When is he due to leave and whill he be able to come home before he ships out?

Hi ladies,
I don't know if any of your sailors would be interested, but my son will be leaving Lemoore for a base overseas and will be selling his tv and stereo system. I know the tv is less than a year old and has extended warranty. I believe it is a sony 32" that he has in his room. If you know anyone that might be interested please give me a shout.
