OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility. 

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.  

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

How Many Guests Can Attend PIR?

The following is provided by lemonelephant, the mom of a Sailor.

 

This information is subject to change and will be updated if changes are made known by the RTC. There have been times when the number of guests was strictly limited.

 

This is from the RTC website with information added in [] based on my experience and what families have shared on N4M:

Q. How many guests per recruit are allowed to attend Pass-In-Review?

A. Four seats are guaranteed per recruit; however, children 12 years old and younger do not count against the four-guest maximum. The graduating recruit is responsible for identifying those individuals to be placed on the access list. Please coordinate with your recruit via letters regarding who will be on the access list. No additions, deletions or changes will be made to the access list the week of graduation. The four guests on the access list will be admitted into the ceremonial drill hall first. Additional guests not on the access list will have to wait inside the Visitor Center until after the start of the ceremony at which time they will be allowed into the ceremonial hall if additional seating is available as space permits. No additional seating can be guaranteed. PLEASE DO NOT CALL FOR ADDITIONAL SEATS. All visitors must have valid photo identification. This requirement includes children (school ID, Social Security card or copy of birth certificate). Please be aware that security may deny base admission to guests NOT on the access list if they are not accompanied by a guest who is on the access list.

[Also, active military personnel, retired military, and veterans do not have to be listed on the access list to attend. They must show proper military ID and must arrive with someone on the access list or walk in. They do not have to be in uniform.  (Remember that not all veterans have military ID and if you have a veteran who does not, s/he would have to be on the access list.)  If you have more than 4 guests who wish to attend, you have 2 options. The first option is to write to your Recruit and ask him/her if he/she has a buddy at BC who does not have 4 guests coming and see if that Recruit can put the extra guest/s on his/her list and then make sure you know the name/s of that/those Recruit/s and the Division number. (If the buddy does not pass, then the guest/s would have to go to the Visitor Center.) The other option would be to have the person/people go and go to the Visitor Center and possibly get to go in after everyone is seated--some do, some don't depending on the number of divisions graduating and the number of people attending who are on the list. The extra guest/s will have to accompany someone who is on the access list to get on the RTC and have valid ID of course. The ID does not have to be a photo ID, especially for children, a birth certificate or Social Security card will work. Also note that you do not have to show ID for children who are under age 2. Place the gate pass on the dash of the vehicle where indicated and have the IDs for all people in your vehicle, the car's registration (or rental agreement), and proof of insurance ready before you enter the gate.]
 
Q. When will I receive tickets/passes to graduation?

A. There are no actual tickets or passes. Recruits list the names of up to four guests that will be included on the access list. Recruits cannot obtain additional “tickets” from other recruits.

[When you receive the form letter, your Recruit most likely will have written down the names of the guests he/she intends to include on the list. If those names are not the ones that you feel should be on the list or if one or more of the people is unable to attend, then you would need to coordinate that with your Recruit by letter. The Recruit will finalize the list about a week before PIR.]

 

Q. I am not sure I am on the access list. Can you find out and make changes if I am not?

A. It is the recruit’s decision whom to place on the access list. Please communicate with your recruit well before the final week of training to be sure the right names are on the list. The Public Affairs Office does not have a copy of the access list as they names on the list are not divulged to the public. No additions, deletions or changes will be made to the access list the week of graduation.
 
Q. Are wheelchairs available for use and is there designated handicapped seating available?
A. Wheelchairs are available on a first-come, first-served basis when guests check in at the Visitor Center. There is limited handicapped-designated seating on the drill deck. One family member may accompany a handicapped family member in this area.
[If you have your own wheelchair or have a rented wheelchair, then bring that to save you time and to assure that you have a wheelchair if needed. Arrive early so that other guests with you will be able to sit in the rows closer to the bottom near you if they wish. Otherwise, you will have one guest with you in a chair next to you and the others could be a ways up in the bleachers. Those using the RTC wheelchairs found that those assisting with them were very helpful.]
 
Q. Is handicapped parking available?
A. Yes. As you enter the base, please show your handicapped parking placard and let security know you require handicapped parking. You will be directed to a parking lot located adjacent to the drill hall. There also are wheelchairs available in this area for those guests who require them.
[Be sure to have the handicapped placard where it can be seen when you are being directed for parking for PIR. The car ahead of us had theirs hanging from the rearview mirror and was directed to parking closer to the entrance for PIR. We had ours on the dashboard and my daughter didn't make a point of pointing it out to the Sailor doing the directing and we had to park a ways down, but it wasn't too bad since my daughter and son's friend are young and were able to push my wheelchair. The parking lot was pretty smooth--even though the path to the hall wasn't so smooth at times. We also had some interesting detours to get to ramps, which would not have been a problem if we had been in the handicapped parking area.]
 
There is additional information in the form letter and in other Pages within this group concerning what to wear and bring to PIR. Parking passes can be downloaded from the RTC website 11 days prior to PIR using the password within the form letter that you received from your Recruit.
