OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

sending a toothbrush?
I finally received my first letter from my son. He said its going well, he had been sick but is better now. He also said the physical stuff is harder than he thought it would be. At the end of his letter he asked me to send him a good non-electric toothbrush. Is this allowed to go through the mail there? And don't they supply them with toothbrushes? Any ideas?

I thought they supplied ALL their needs at BC! Hopefully my SR has a toothbrush.....either that or they better provide really GOOD dental care for all the cavities! :)

This is the second time that I have seen this...but only the second time. I hope diannep, JessicaB and LaLa see it (I'll message them)...cause I just don't know! They can't just go to the NEX...but at the same time...by the time you so send it (if it's okay)...he may have already gone to the NEX...They are taken their for necessities...but I am not sure how often.
Near the end of BC recruits ask for their contacts along with some solution...and female recruits ask for make-up, small toiletries, hair straighteners etc (everything in the travel size and packaged correctly)...and we advise that it is okay to send...becasue they have specifically requested it. This usually means that they have recieved permission from their RDC's.
But the toothbrush thing perplexes me...unless he had to clean the head with his and no longer has one!

I am just not sure. I believe he would not ask for something he is not allowed to receive. They do supply everything they need initially but when those supplies are depleted they have to buy them at the nex. Maybe he just doesn't like the one he has. Or maybe it has worn out. Who knows. You know him better than anyone else. I really think they know the consequences of receiving something they are not supposed to receive. Maybe you could ask his recruiter. Good luck :-)

spitfire: Usually if they ask you to send something, they have "cleared it" with the RDCs. If he asked for it, I would send it. Yes, it will have to be opened in front of the RDCs but I feel sure it is allowed. We always recommend that you all wait for your SRs to ask for something before sending it---but remember that care packages with goodies are never allowed. They can buy things like toothbrushes in the NEX but maybe they don't have the kind he likes?

Thanks for the suggestions. I think since he asked for it I will send one out. I know he had some cash on him so i don't know why he doesn't buy one, but he can explain it to me later. lol

I don't know if you have gotten an answer yet but I received a call from my SR and he also was asking me to send a tooth brush along with bandaids and athletic tape to hold them in place. He said we could send a small box with those items but said that if we send goodies like cookies and such they do not get them. Someone else eats them, lol, if you know what I mean! I'm hoping he receives the items that I sent him, feeling sad because he has blisters so bad. They do issue them a toothbrush but my SR has been using his to clean his boots :(. Hope this helps!
