I agree with diannep about attending PIR if you hear nothing at all.

IOW...they don't call to say they are in FIT (so you don't know if they passed or not), you for some reason do not get the I'm a Sailor call, etc.

If it is a financial issue (and it is for most) go to PIR...they may be right on track. You will see PIR and then can ask to visit your recruit.

We just had a mom have this happen...she had had a letter several weeks before PIR and her SR expressed not passing...then she did not here from him again...no letters or calls. It was still early on and he had plenty of time to pass...still had that final PFA. She went to PIR...was able to call PAO the day before PIR and found out he was right on track. Whew!

So if this happens...please let us know and we can "walk you throught it"!

Here is some info as far as when your recruit goes to FIT from RTC Websites FAQ:

Q.
My recruit failed their fitness test (run) or swim qualification. When will he/she graduate or what is their status?
A.

While recruits are listed in this status, they are not scheduled to graduate. They will not get another phone call until their status changes, meaning: They have passed their test. If they pass before their graduation date, they will complete Battle Stations with whatever division is going through it next. If they pass their test after their original division has graduated, they will then go directly on to their A School. They will not participate in a graduation ceremony as their division would have already graduated and we do not wish to delay their A School training any further.

This is if you get a call home saying that they ahve not passed their PFA rewuirements and are in FIT.

If your recruit does not pass the swim or the run before BS21...they are granted a call home...brief...saying "not to come to PIR" becasue as of that moment..."their status has changed" and they are not scheduled to graduate. Then, like diannep said they go into FIT and are worked with to ry and pass that run or swim...or whatever part it is...before PIR. Do not change your plans...they still could pass...go through BS21 and graduate on schedule. They also will not be allowed to call again until their staus changes...in other words...they pass it and do BS21 and are back on schedule.

If you find yourself in this situation...and have not heard from your recruit by the Wednesday before PIR...you may call PAO (Public Affairs Office Phone: Public Affairs Office 847-688-2405) and they will let you know where they are at. things happen and RTC is most concerned with getting your recruit on track...doesn't mean they aren't concerned about the families...just priority wise. It is rare for a recruit not to call when their status changes ...I just can't say "never" or "always".

I agree with everything diannep said (especially sine she has been doing this longer than I have :-))

Praying for those who's recruits are struggling with the PFA's for whatever reason...my son was in the same boat...had had the crud, then pneumonia...back down to the crud...but he pushed through and passed!

Comment by Momof5 on August 25, 2012 at 3:35pm

There was a Mom in the 8/24 PIR group who's son had not called, she went to Chicago on Thursday and still did not hear from him, finally called PR and he did not pass, he will keep working but no PIR for him.  Praying for that family- that would sure be hard.  I know it sucked to repurchase tickets when our son was set back, but at least we had not already made the trip.

Tinker, one of my sons has been battling shin splints almost the entire time in BC, he failed the first PFA, got pulled from the second because he puked due to a bout with the flu and so, hopefully and prayerfully we are anticipating seeing him at PIR 9/7!
Comment by Tinker on August 25, 2012 at 10:49am

I take that as we won't be notified in time to cancel flights. This is stressful, so much for sleep this week, at least it gives me lots of time for prayers for the SR's. I'll be thinking rockets on their shoes to fly thru the test.

Comment by ryt2me on August 25, 2012 at 10:37am

Thank you diannep.....I know that our SR's will make it and be at PIR on 9/7.

Comment by diannep on August 25, 2012 at 9:58am

Tinker:  We always recommend that you all still go.  That is because....if they don't pass before their PIR, they will have NO PIR---they fly straight to A School.  If you go out there, they will let you visit with your SR for a couple of hours on PIR Day----not guaranteed but we have heard of no one turned down who went there so far.  So important for both you and your SR to see each other as it is tough when they are in FIT and their buddies have graduated.

So keep your plans!

Comment by Tinker on August 25, 2012 at 9:53am

Thank you for your replies. Would we be notified in time to cancel flights? I don't want to fly across country and not be able to see him. That's the whole purpose of me flying out.
