Yes, you will have plenty of time to take practice shots with your camera. Change the settings until you get the best results for the lighting you have. Even try turning on or off your flash to see what is best. You will be glad you did :-) This is a pic of the choir. My Sailor is the blonde standing next to the tall guy with the glasses :-)

Dear FireTeamLeaderWife....these pics are awesome!  Makes us more excited to see it all.  Thank you.  Yes, our kids drive their own chairs & have since age 3 and we figure one of us will sit with them.  If you can't tell, I like to get a feel ahead of time so we know what to expect.  The world is becoming more W/C friendly since there more and more perons in chairs these days.  I did read about disabled seating and assumed it was in front somewhere.  I just hope we get to sit in front of 223 and not somewhere down the way - he's a flag carrier so gets to be in front would hate to miss that.  And...thanks for the test photo advice.

Yes...you will have Sunday too. Liberty expires at 2200 hours (10 PM) each night for TSC (Training Support Center Great Lakes...which is a little over a mile up the road from RTC). I am assuming that means "in his barracks" before 10 PM! On time...is late! I am also assuming that this can be changed at any time... He will be your best source as he will be given explicit instructions at his INDOC.

Here is the ABRIDGED PHASE LIBERTY POLICY

for TSC GL.

Dang...had a brownout while I was typing..we are hitting triple digits here and it is staying hotter during the night too...moving on!

Comment by J-RockyMtn on July 8, 2012 at 7:22pm

I have another question about LIBERTY ... when I spoke with my son yesterday, he mentioned he also gets Sunday with us.  Does anyone know the Liberty schedule?   He is staying at GL for A School, so form what I read, we get him Friday after he checks out of RTC and checks into A-School barracks (at 3pm or 4pm), then we get him Saturday. I hadn't seen anything about Sunday.  The RTC Family Guide is vague. Now that our SR mentioned it, we will plan for it, but I was curious if anyone knows the routine.

More Pics:

Okay...the pic above… See the yellow lines? Those start off to the left at the big garage door that opens to let your Sailors in. They'll come in in order of their Divisions and march all the way to the other end and make a U-ee, march back and then line up in formation by division. See the closest set of stacked chairs? That is where the first Division will stand…then it goes on down the line. The 900 Div is in the middle I believe (they come in after...a space is left for them) I believe the 800 Divisions march in last…but don’t quote me on that!

When you come into the Hall you will see Sailors on the floor standing next to Division markers. This is where your Division will be standing for PIR. You should sit in the stands in front of the marker. The markers are positioned so that when you sit in the stands your Division is a little bit to the right of you. There is also seating upstairs in the balcony.

Here is another pic of a Division Marker:

...you can see the Garage Door Entrance open on the left side of the pic...this was before the ceremony. The Divison markers are removed before the ceremony.

Comment by FireTeamLeaderWife aka FTLW on July 8, 2012 at 6:45pm

I am going to post a picture also for a Sailor assisting and also for seating!

Okay...it's a little blurry! Sorry (**Note - Take practice pics before the ceremony starts...mine were dark!)

But...you can see the Sailor with the wheelchair assist. Now, see the two Sailors off to the left? Those were the Honor Graduates from our Division...180. The marker sign has the Division Number on it and the Division is going to stand in formation to the right (our right facing them) of that.

Julie L Colorado - For disabled seating...there are wheelchairs available at PIR but I am assuming that you have your own for the kiddos!

The Parking Garage for PIR has handicapped parking...show your placard to the Gate Guard when you enter RTC...if you end up on the second floor of the PG...there are elevators. You'll walk to the VC (Visitors Center - the USS Yorktown...which then leads to Security checkpoint and then into Midway Ceremonial Drill Hall). If you would like, a Sailor will asisst you (or they may automatically do so!)

Handicapped seating is limited but it will be directly on the Drill deck and one Family member may sit with a handicapped family member in this area. Since you have to...I am assuming that means one each! A chair will be brought for you.

Here is some info from the RTC WEBSITE FAQ's on the subject:

Q.
Are wheelchairs available for use and is there designated handicapped seating available?
A.

Wheelchairs are available on a first-come, first-served basis when guests check in at the Visitor Center. There is limited handicapped-designated seating on the drill deck. One family member may accompany a handicapped family member in this area.

Q.
Is handicapped parking available?
A.

Yes. As you enter the base, please show your handicapped parking placard and let security know you require handicapped parking. You will be directed to a parking lot located adjacent to the drill hall. There also are wheelchairs available in this area for those guests who require them.

The military LOVES Acronyms! When my hubby was at JBB (Joint Base Balad) I came across a page on the internet for acronyms:

ACRONYM & ABBREVIATION LIST
