Sounds like you may have the best of both worlds??!!

Yes Melissa, they tell me it is shore duty. I sure do go to sea a lot though. I ride them all.

LOL! Our kids probably don't even know wind-up alarm clocks exist?? Are you doing maintenance on the destroyers in Pearl? Shore duty?
Sonar Chief Comment by Sonar Chief on November 11, 2009 at 8:51pm
There should be no problem getting batteries on the ship. I always used a wind up one myself.

So, Chief, would it be better to buy him something with re-chargeable batteries, or can he buy batteries as needed on the ship?
Sonar Chief Comment by Sonar Chief on November 10, 2009 at 11:24pm
Most racks have an electrical outlet built into the light (some of the older ships do not). It is cramped in there when you are trying to sleep and most people prefer not to have anything plugged in while they sleep. Be reminded than any personal electric/electronic device brought onboard needs to get a safety check and a tag affixed to the cord. Some items are unauthorized regardless (irons, hot plates, coffee pots, you get the idea).

My son requested a battery operated alarm clock for this rack.

Does anyone know if the sailors have electricity in their berths? Can they plug things in, or do their electronics need to run on batteries?

I am missing the part in that link to NMAWC home page referencing too many STG's on a ship. Yes Marla, I do know your husband, we were stationed together at Whidbey Island as well.
Marla Comment by Marla on November 5, 2009 at 12:40pm
Too many STG's on a ship?? What ship is that so I can have hubby try for orders to that one next..... He's on a CG here in Pearl (probably knows Chief), and has half the STG's he had on his last CG in MS 6 years ago.... Ahhh the wonders of the SmartShip......

Ok, done ranting. :) Have a lovely day!
