Do you have a Sailor on the USS Barry?

My son just met up with the Barry a couple of days ago. I haven't seen anyone else say whether or not their Sailor was on the Barry, so upon the advise a good N4M friend, I decided to start a group! Hope there's more Mom's out there that their Sailors call the Barry 'home'.

Hiya kathy!

Welcome to the group. We don't seem to be very active, but every one is pleasant. It is very nice to have you join. I know I feel better just knowing all of you fellow Barry family members are here.

From my house to your house and our ship, have a very happy Thanksgiving.

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone and their sailors whether they are home or on the ship. I'm sure they will be fed well. I'm new to this group, just finally looked for the ship.

Happy Thanksgiving to all of you!

Sure hope all the sailors who won't make it home for Thanksgiving will have a great meal and good day.

HT's wife,
Thanks, yes it makes sense. It makes a difference if they are married or have dependents. John says he can not get it until he makes E5, so I guess he is out of luck. oh well !! I will have him look into it more just to make sure. Thanks again.

Jenna,
The details about getting it started, I would suggest he speak with his chain of command. I'm not sure about, nor can I say for certain, how the details are with new sailors. That would be something he needs to speak with his chain of command about, so he gets the correct information.

As far as I understand (and I admit that is limited), they are eligible for BAH below E5. If they are eligible for it when living in barracks, they should also be eligible for it when opting to live off base. BUT, I am NOT positive how it works to get it started, whether they have to be approved, if they have to speak with a certain person to be fully informed, etc.
The new sailors I am personally familiar with, either already had kids or a wife (dependents), or had a child or got married before leaving Great Lakes, in which cases, the BAH was already initiated, or would be for sure. If that makes sense.

HT's wife....WOW I thought that they had to be E5 to recieve BHA. Do they only get it if they live in barracks on base? My son told me that he cant get it yet.? I am confused. I would feel better with him moving off base if I knew that he would be getting some assistance. Who can he talk to about this?
Thanks for the info!!
