I was concerned also. Talking to my uncle (retired Navy), said it would be strange with all the damage that they would consider repairing her. To dangerous to take out again.  He was actually on a Carrier back in Vietnam that was bombed  and its on a cover of Life Magazine..

Well, I know that wherever they send them, I will enjoy visiting. Scott thought he would never be out to sea again but now that may change. Oh well...

Lorraine - yeah I was always concerned about the integrity of the hull also, I would have been a nervous wreck the first time they took it under.  I am sure they do not know yet where they are all going and even if they do they will not be able to tell us.  My grandson just moved his wife and baby out to Maine the end of June, I am sure he already had an idea by then, but wanted them to be with him.  In my own wishful thinking I hope he get assigned somewhere on the West coast however I know that my grandson would love to be assigned to one of the new Virginia class subs.  We will just have to wait and see

I was definitely concerned about the hull integrity. This may be for the best, but now all these sailors and their families who thought they'd be in one place for another year or more, will be moving somewhere. That part is sad. Someone sent me a link to an article to confirm what you posted.

Yeah at first they were but now they have changed their mind because according to what I read there is more cracks and damage then they thought.

I thought they were already forging ahead with repairs?

Comment by Nana Donna (nanaTo2Saliors) on August 6, 2013 at 11:28pm

So the news is now that the Navy will not be repairing the Miami.  Will have to wait and see what happens with our Sailors

I suspected this might happen with the budget cuts for the Navy

Nana Donna, He is just home for two weeks. He's only halfway thru his 6 year enlistment. When he returns he's going to add 3 years and re-enlist. Nice signing bonus for nukes...

Lloves, After 6 years, I'm sure it's hard to believe Alex is really out of the Navy! Does he remain on a "list" or "reserves" for two years?

Comment by LLovesmysailor on August 3, 2012 at 10:05pm

It is so good having them home. I still haven't gotten use to the idea that Alex isn't just home on leave. He has enrolled in community college and will be taking Chemistry, English and Economics. Then he'll start at PIT in Jan. That is if he gets his butt in gear and finishes the paperwork for the spring semester.
