Navy For Moms

Did you know that posting something as simple as a name or an innocent
photograph can threaten lives and missions thousands of miles away?

To help you get a better understanding of how you can continue to be a responsible N4M member, we encourage you to watch this brief video from two experts responsible for keeping our site – and our Sailors – safe.

Dave Linabury is the SVP Social Media Director at Campbell-Ewald. He’s a nationally recognized blogger, a frequent speaker and panelist at Internet conferences, and has done in-depth research on internet safety.

Senior Chief Tom Jones is the Public Affairs Officer for Navy Recruiting
Command, and has 18 years of experience in Navy media, including
photography, videography, journalism and public affairs.

This is good information, and praying that we'll all be careful.

Michelle: The video talks about why it's important to think before posting information that could jeopardize our Sailors (OPSEC) as well as personal information like your last name, phone #, address, etc. If you take a look at the Community Guidelines (link the column at right) we have a section outlined that also discusses this.

ivonbirdlane: Whichever username you chose is fine, but stick to ones that don't contain your last name. If you go in your Inbox, you can send a message to all of your N4M friends and let them know you've changed your name :)

This video should be watched before given permission to be on N4M.

Can someone summarize what is said here? I have dial-up service and can't watch videos. Thanks.

I think I'm more confused! I understand the part about "loose lips sink ships" but what should we list as our name? I've already changed mine twice and now I want to change it again, but who will be able to keep up with each other, if we have to change our names??

The comments about cropped photos give me pause. I don't think many of us know about that.
