Welcome to all Anticipating PIR 10/7/2011!!

This group is for those with loved ones who had PIR on 10/07/2011. (PIR is short for Pass-in-Review and just means graduate from Boot Camp.)

It was an amazing ceremony, an amazing opportunity to see our Sailors perform and participate as an entire group, amazing to hear that wonderful Liberty call and completely overwhelming to get those long awaited hugs.

It is our desire that this Group will provide the information, encouragement, and support you need while your loved one continues their Navy Journey. We are hoping you will continue to come back and update everyone on that journey and continue to seek support and encouragement from friends you have already made here.

Enjoy your time here and feel free to Comment and join in the Discussions. Be sure to check out the information in the "Pages" section to the right. This is information that will be of interest to all Members.  (You will need to click on "View All" to see all of them.)

Please review the Community Guidelines and keep OPSEC in mind when you post. If you would not want an enemy to know something, then do not post it here because this is NOT a secure site and the enemy lurks. Please do not post your Sailor's last name and NEVER his/her full name. Also do not use your full name, especially if your last name is the same as your Sailor's. If your Sailor provides specific information about events that will occur, please keep that to yourself and do not post the day/time on here since this information may be sensitive and is not to be shared.

Granted, we change planes 3 times before we get there at 5:40pm, but have a direct flight home. When you have 5 kids, 3 in college, 1 in high school and 1 about to graduate PIR, you have to be thrifty! Can't wait to meet everyone on Oct 7!

lemonelephant & fireteamleaderwife, as always... very helpful!! Thank you.  Now, that I know more than one can be printed/copied. We don't need to worry about outside parking.  I'll print/copy a few for each of us.  Thanks again!

Meant to say, "If you continue past Gate 8 on OHIO you will head straight into the Metra parking lot."

You can print a pass and photocopy it, so you can give it out like lemonelephant said, just in case you are not all in the same car. I made several. It's good to keep several in several places, in the car, your purse etc...overkill in this case doesn't hurt!

If you have to park outside RTC:

Right outside RTC, on OHIO street, is parking for the Metra. It is not a huge lot but I never saw it full and I was there Tuesday through Sunday Memorial Day weekend of this year. You do have to pay for parking in the Metra lot though. I think it was 2 or 4 dollars....don't qoute me on that one...but it was not expensive. The Metra spaces are numbered. Just park, remember the number and then the pay box is just to the left from where you first enter the lot. It didn't say too but I left my ticket in the car on the dash. ( I was checking out the Metra for a possible trip into Chicago. You board the Metra on the OTHER side of the tracks and there is NO parking over there. You have to park, walk down the block around the corner and up the stairs to the other side.)

See where it says Buckley Road and then you turn into RTC? This turn is OHIO. Then see Gate 8 with the red dot? This is the gate to enter for PIR. If you continue past it you will head straight into the Metra parking lot.

Just an FYI for everyone. I went to PIR May of this year. We were directed to park behind Midway Hall  (where the black grid marks are beside the green building), NOT across the way where it says "Parking Lot Graduation" We DID return our Sailor to that parking lot across the way on the first night. All days after that I was always directed to the parking lot beside Midway Hall. I had to park and walk across (it's a walk)to get my SR from the NEX. (Visitors are not allowed past the Chapel)

Here is a full view of RTC:

Just double click either picture and they will enlarge.

I keep forgetting to ask current moms who have been to PIR where they parked. I will and then get back to you!

Sheilamf (Ship 07 Div 339), I tried to find the Discussion on that and could not find it (perhaps the mom left N4M and took it with her or I am just not putting the right search words in), but if you cannot travel in the same car, which is recommended because of limiting the number of cars, then you can share the link and password with your Ex and have him print his own Parking Pass/Gate Pass or print one and give it to him. One family did this last year and the mom and dad and their spouses were able to get in.

veteran moms, I have a question... on the form letter, it gave information to print Parking Pass.  I assume only one Parking Pass can be printed per SR. I will be traveling with current husband & SR's brother.  Dad (ex-husband) will be traveling separately. If one does not have the Parking Pass, where does one park?
