OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

Received a letter from my SR in Div 212 today! Said this week is a Very busy week. Making good friends, studying and loving it! Also said time is going by fast and can hardly wait for the last week! My SR had some wisdom teeth out and got a whole day of rest! What a way to get R&R lol

Division 934 has hell week this week my daughter said. She said Marlinspike went well. I was happy to hear she was making friends and would like all the families to meet. She thinks they may get a call this weekend. That would make me so happy since I missed the last two :( I can't believe PIR is right around the corner. So proud of my daughter's decision and looking forward to a great future for her!

Thanks everyone for sharing what you know so far. It really helps us mom who's kids are not letter writers. Although I just found out I have a letter waiting at home- woohoo! I will share any info I learn as well. Have a good evening.

Cathy Jo, my son is also in 934. My last phone call from him was almost two weeks ago and the last letter about 10 days ago. The last conversation we had was when they earned their first flag and they seem to be doing well for the most part. I know how hard it is not to hear from our SRs, but I tell myself about 100 times a day, "No news is good news."
