When my son/daughter first spoke about joining the service I:: Encouraged him/her

As a new Navy mom, the most important thing I learned was:: how many mixed emotions I have and that they are all valid.

My son/daughter is currently in the service or retired, and now I believe:: Our relationship has grown stronger

I asked Frieda as well so if you have any info I would truly appreciate it .... thank you so much for all your help!!!

I have a doctor's appointment tomorrow for my husband in Westchester but I have friday off and will try to get up to GL to see Fran. Thank you for thinking of me and Pat we are desperately praying for Stephen's recovery and for our Dear Lord to give Fran strength through this ordeal. If you know of anything I can bring to Fran please let me know as well. Thank you and God bless.

At 8:55am on November 20, 2008, Sherri Burkard said…: Hi Pat-I am a little late on this, I am so depressed, kaleena and I talked for almost 2 hours last night, and she has duty on saturday, and she can't leave til Wed in teh afternoon,26th, i almost cried when i saw your offer, but the dates wouldn't work, if she could get to gr with you on wed, then we can get her back on friday-but i just don't see it working out-i am so thankful for you offereing, but now i am looking for a home for her to have some Turkey and family time-she even mentioned it to me, so i was on here last night in home for the holidays forum-her hubby can't be with her, and we can't, and we have ALWAYS been together, so we are all bummed. Sorry I am just whinning, but I am so sad!!!! Thanks for listening Pat where is your son now? kaleena leaves on dec 7 for norfolk, she is stationed on the uss cole. i will look forward to an email from you-nice to talk to other moms isn't it? love sherri

Just thought I would update you on our Hawaii bound sailor. He is coming home for a short visit this Thursday through Sunday, and he'll be on a plane for "Pineapple Land" on Wednesday before Turkey Day! So much for Thanksgiving with him, or Christmas, for that matter. I want to say thank you for your sweet offer of sharing the holiday at your home...I'm so touched at your warmth and hospitality...but, the Navy has other ideas! This Mom is working hard to bury the tears until he's on the way back to GL on Sunday, and then I'll have to let 'em rip....I want this trip to be very special for him, since it will most likely be several months to a year before we could go visit, and probably longer for him to be allowed to come home.

It's going to be a holiday season like no other I've ever experienced, that's for sure! Talk with you again soon....Sheila
