Profile Information

About me:
I'm a South Austin mom, raised a daughter and a son here in Texas. My daughter runs the record department at the DA's office here in Austin and my son is a Navy Corpsman currently deployed in the sands of Iraq.

I have two perfect grandchildren to match my perfect children, a small dog who misses our great old dog, Boomer that we lost last year...and a home and garden that is currently burning up in the Texas heat. However hot it is here, it's hotter in Iraq, and when I wander my streets, there are few out to kill me because of my homeland and our president who took us there to invade their homeland based on lies and manipulations.

I'm a proud Texas YELLOW DOG Democrat....and prouder of that fact every single day, as we learn more and more of the disgraceful behavior of this current administration. I'm also the daughter of a career Navy officer, sister of a US Marine ( who, by the way served 50 years ago in the same unit with which my son now serves) and an American patriot.

I have extremely strong political views, and I've given up dancing around people who want to play games about politics. As a military brat, born on a USN base, I know damn well I can voice my opinion loud and hard and will do it from now on. Not doing so is a crime...and led us to this mess we are in now.
My son/daughter is:
Enlisted
I was the proudest of my child when:
the day he was born, everything else has just been gravy.
When my son/daughter first spoke about joining the service I:
Was concerned or afraid, Was proud
As a new Navy mom, the most important thing I learned was:
my son worries as much about me as I worry about him....also that some Navy moms live in a bubble with rose colored glasses....and their kids are going to war. It's not just the new sailors that have to "man up".
My son/daughter is currently in the service or retired, and now I believe:
Our relationship has grown stronger, This was a maturing experience

Looking for a Christmas gift to send to someone deployed?

Fox Sox Support our Troops in a Practical Way Fox River socks make all the difference for soldiers, especially in Iraq and Afghanistan, in staying comfortable in harsh conditions. Fulfill a soldier's wish and send him or her socks from their wishlist. Fox River will pay for the shipping. Last year before Matt was deployed these socks were the only thing on his Christmas wish list. He said they are the best, and that sometimes, Marine… Continue

Ducks in some city with water....a lovely story....

San Antonio Duck Story. I love this...and I'm killing time, counting days until Matt hits the US shore...so enjoy it...and if it's not true, and those ducks were all trained to pose for those pictures and they all voted for McCain... just don't tell me. I like this story....I got it in an email, one of the Navy moms I forwarded it to suggested I post it. Edit: so now I know it's possibly Spokane Washington. do I care? no, still… Continue

Hey there, have a wonderful Thanksgiving and tell Matt I said hey. Joe's driving this way as we speak, but of course his buddy here at home has top priority over the old folks. I guess I'll see him some time tomorrow...sigh.

Thanks. Hes going to be in Iraq until at least May. He does have a dog. Shes a foo foo dog! LOL Shes a whole 8 pounds. I can send some pics. Ive missed his 21 and 22 birthdays with him out of the country and this will be the 2nd Christmas. I think the depression bothers me because Im a therapist and have taken workshops on PTSD and Battlemind. That stuff scares me. At least I know hes living and breathing. I wish I could hug him.

You did, over and over, don't you remember? LOL

He is overwhelmed, they all are. Joe called me from the road last night on his way to go see his best friend, because a tractor trailer was alongside him on the highway and it spooked him. They didn't have that sort of traffic in Iraq. The big trucks used to freak him out when he was learning to drive, too, like they do a lot of people, so I'm not too surprised about that. He recovered of course, he's just taking it one step at a time. That's what it will take. How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time.

Matt looked very much in control of himself, very calm and easy going. Nice young man you've got there. Give him a few days, he'll be back to himself before you know it.
