Kaye, what a great pix. Thanks for sharing it. For me, it seems to large to grasp since my recruit just left for bootcamp. We have to get over that hurdle first. However, just seeing your sailor, helps me to keep in mind that there is light at the end of the tunnel.,, kathy16, I would be open to setting up a little get-to-gather in Warsaw. Any ideas?

I know there was a meeting in Warsaw in October that I was unable to attend. Is there another one scheduled? I know there is one in Indy on Mondays, but I cannot attend. Please let me know. I love reading everyone's posts. It looks like it will be a beautiful day! Enjoy

I love this site. I only wish I knew about it when my son was in boot camp in May of 2006. It was very tough at first not to be able to hear from him, I think it is the idea that you cannot have any contact. He lived in Lafayette before he went into the Navy and I did not talk to him every day, but it was the idea that I knew I could. At boot camp, you had no contact until the Navy said he could call and then you do treasure those calls. Also, I loved getting the letters. We are so used to the e-mails, but getting an actual letter was a treat. I found his letters about a month ago when I was cleaning. It wa great to see the change in your sailor after boot camp. The Navy has definitely been a good thing fo rmy son.

Congrats Kaye on your sailors re-enlistment. I'm sure your feeling lots of stuff right now. It's a feeling of Pride and loss all in one, plus lots of other things. Thank you for the sharing the picture. It makes me proud and I'm not even his mom. Course I'm missing my sailor something fierce. We are so close to homecoming I can almost grasp it. I need to invest in Kleenex. lol

As much as I miss my son, I hope he chooses to re-enlist when the time comes. There are so many more opportunities for him with the Navy. Kaye, I can only imagine how proud you are :)

Here's my Sailor at his reenlistment! He added another 5 years... in until he's 29. He got a big signing bonus, which he wants to save for while he goes to college. But, while I'm really proud of him, I'm a little sad too... that life will be "Navy first" for 8 more years from now. Hugs all, k.

Ahhh the box....My memory of the box was a little something like this...I had kinda prepared myself for it because I was part of N4M's so I heard all the stories..I waited and waited for it to arrive. I thought of hit clothes smelling like him and wanting to keep it close for his smell, yet I prepared myself for all the tears that I knew were to fall. FInally my day had came...I watched the mailman come up to the door, took a deep breath and got it. I sat there for a few moments before I opened and starred because it had his hand writing on it and I was just preparing myself. I eventually gave in and opened it...I had a tear or two fall as I was doing this. I finally got it all opened up and started to take out his clothes, then it hit me.....I just started laughing and couldnt stop....the smell was absolutely horrible!! It was a musty dirty box smell...I just had to laugh. I had this sentimental picture in my head of how this was suppose to go, but being overwhelmed by this smell was not part of the plan. First thing I did.....Throw Them in the Wash! This of course after I dug his socks out his jean pockets and put his cell phone back together. Ahh the fond memories.....

Sharolyn, Our boys made it! I spoke with the recruiter today and she was very helpful. I plan on meeting her tomorrow, Jon took his motorcycle keys with him to Indy. Fine with me, just another reason to feel a little closer to my son. By the way, I noticed a little article in the East Allen County Courier (a little newspaper in our area). Any way, Indiana Christmas tree growers are sending Christmas trees to the Great Lakes Naval Station and the Navy 5th Fleet stationed out of Bahrain. If you want anymore info, contact Pines of Leo (260)627-2618.

Our son knew that he'd have to mail his shoes and clothes back in the BOX after checking into bootcamp...so he wore his oldest sneakers in case they got lost in the mail. His oldest shoes were also his smelliest!

My son swore in with tina's son. He also called and we have his address, so quick I don't have much to tell him already...just a day went by. If we put his clothes in the garbage he would not be happy. Surely the box could not smell as bad as my kids clothes and shoes do when they clean the beer cans out of the basement @ their Grandpa's bar (usually a year's worth). When he called I almost hoped he would leave a message so we could listen to it over and over...but then he would not have heard one of our voices.
