I must say, I'm pretty jazzed about the whole thing. Plus he wrote his aunt which I'm really thrilled with.

Happy Dance to the Moms that got letters today. Doesn't it make everything feel just a little better. :)

I got one from my son today too. He said the food is good, only 15 min to eat and no talking. He said we are never allowed to talk, lol. he also said that he hadn't started real boot camp yet, I think this was written on 4th of July and that he thought real boot camp should start on Wed. He also said he hadn't been outside for more than 45 min for the whole first week. I'm sure that has changed by now though. He also really thought the camo uniform with his name on it was really cool.

I received 3 letters today from Ellie! I am walking on cloud 9!!! To all those Moms that have not heard from their child yet - your day will come, just keep sending the letters to your recruit because it mean SO much to them!

It seems that Boot Camp sucks on those days that her division is getting IT. One day they had 4 hours then chow followed by another 3 hours. But, just as quickly on those days that they don't have IT that much and she gets mail call; Boot Camp isn't that bad... so it seems that it changes from day to day. I think that is why writing encouraging letters everyday is so very important. She talked about going to Mass in the Anglican Church service and said it was very cool. She liked the Chaplain but he didn't have as much "swagger" as our Rector from St George. I am just glad that she is going! She said that the recruits are talking about having a division luncheon in Chicago after they PIR. And they all want to introduce each other to their family and friends. I think that is so nice. She states that the food is not bad. She said it was better than what they offered in her college. She is sticking to the chicken and salad bar but they offer pizza everyday and once in a while she eats the buffalo wings as a treat. So, overall they are feeding the recruits well and she is happy about that! Like so many others she is getting her wisdom teeth pulled in boot camp and is not looking forward to looking like a chipmunk, but it has to be done. She told me that so many people are getting it done that they are doing it alphabetically. She is asking for information from the outside world... like if the oil spill is still going on as such. They are so cut off from the outside, so when you are writing sprinkle in some current event stuff so they don't feel so cut off. She mentioned a few of her fellow recruits and they refer to themselves as the "Gee Mom that's Awkward" Club.... since all their Moms are friends on N4M and/or facebook. But, they are cool with it since they know it helps us to talk to each other. She thinks its funny that I am talking to a Mom of a male recruit in her division while she can't! She has some fellow recruits that are craving stuff like toffee chocolate chip cookies and she has one fellow NJ recruit that moved out of state that wants me to bring some Devil Dogs and Enteman's Coffee Cakes to PIR. So here's to creating my first Navy Care Package... WOOHOO!

She answered some of my questions...The classes are either taught by the RDCs or are computer based. She was chosen for 939 because she volunteered the information that she had singing ability, auditioned and is now half of the Soprano section in the choir. There is NO PRIVACY in basic training - not in the head or anywhere else! They only have 2 minutes to take a shower. The RDCs can't physically touch them in punishment, but head games and IT are punishment enough! The only "free time" they have is from 7-12 on Sunday mornings.

Hope sharing her updates help others...

RNnavywife: Just think next week is the half way point... August is just next month. If it helps I made a paper clip string and I am taking off one for each day; it gives me a visual that the days until I see my Ellie again ARE shrinking. Maybe it might help you too. Hold on and stay strong - and there is nothing wrong with a shirt next to you at night. Whatever gets you through!

Samantha: Calls are VERY random. I got a couple in the mornings on holidays (Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve) but most came in the afternoon on weekends. That doesn't mean they are all like that. Just when minie came. They can call at anytime, so just have your phone with you even in the bathroom!

Kyle/Ellie's mom...you know I still have my husband's shirt next to my pillow? LOL, it's been 5 weeks and I still hold it when I fall asleep at night! The longer he's gone, the harder it gets!!
