The next step has begun

Last weekend my family and I attended the PIR or graduation ceremony for my son and the other recruits. If anyone is reading this and considering whether or not to go, GO! The ceremony was impressive. When the Sailors started marching in, I became teary. The sound of the feet marching in step, watching them parade past the families and dignitaries, listening to them call out the Sailor's Creed in unison all are experiences you should have. The video clips do not do it justice. I hope everyone…See More

Missing my son, but he would be proud

Today I woke up at 5:30. By 6:30 I was up. I am a teacher and on summer break, and it's Saturday. Why couldn't I sleep?! I fixed some breakfast, and at 7:30 I went for a walk/ jog. I'll admit I am not a little girl, and am working to get in shape. I pushed myself to do more than I have in the past, and found I really can do more than I think I expected.  It is what I always told my son in the past when he wanted to give up. At one point I had almost decided to start walking, and told myself…See More

Setting Goals for myself while we wait

I thought I was doing great. I wasn't crying, or whining about my son being gone. Today I realized I needed to change what I was doing though. I was writing to him every day, thinking of him constantly, and had retreated into my house. Waiting in the silence. Waiting for the box, or letters. Today I got up at 8:30, and did little things around the house. By 10:30 I took a nap. I wasn't especially sleepy, just tired. I realized at noon, that this was not good. I cannot retreat into silent…See More

Profile Information

About me:
I am the mother of two sons. The youngest has enlisted and is waiting for boot camp. The oldest is in college and is planning to be a minister. I am a special education teacher. I enjoy knitting and needlework, and going to the gym with my youngest son. For now, both boys are still home with me and my husband.
I am here to support or represent my:
Son/Daughter
Stage of (Sailor’s) Navy Career?
Waiting to leave for Boot Camp
When I heard “Navy,” I:
Was proud and encouraged it
From my experience with the Navy, the most important thing I learned was:
Trust that my son has researched and thought about what he wants to do, and they will guide him through the process. His recruiter answered all his and our questions. They are helping him prepare while he waits.

I have found my son is much more focused than I had thought.
Through this Navy experience, I now believe:
It was positive and maturing. Our relationship has grown stronger.

Today was the day he left

Yesterday we delivered my son to the recruiters. Today I drove into town to the base to see him sworn into active duty. I got teary last night and today, but didn't really cry. I thought I was doing amazingly. Then when I got home my phone had slipped under the seat, and I thought I had lost it. I fell apart. The picture of him before he got on the bus, and the message that told me "see you later momma, I love you" were on the phone. Thinking I had lost it, and I might have to get another…

Sorry to be responding to your comment so late! Life sure has gotten in the way of things since my boyfriend got to boot camp. How are you doing? Have you received any letters or phone calls? I am looking forward to PIR! My SR's mom and I have discussed marriage ideas...she would like us to get married in their backyard since it has significance to us (we went to h.s. together and had all of our prom photos there). He doesn't know any of this is being discussed...I hope he still wants to after boot camp!

How are you doing?  I have a feeling that these 9 weeks are going to go by slow for me? I can' wait to get his information so I have the address to write to him!

Good morning.  I wanted to check in first thing. I thought about you all night.  Did you get the call letting you know he was on base?  I remember laughing because he sounded so serious, it was just like I heard it would be.  Now just waiting on "The Box".  Keep yourself busy.

I am so sorry for not totally paying attention before I commented back.  Not sure why I was thinking you had another week.  I had to keep myself busy.  My son made sure he left a ton a laundry for me to do after he left, so that was a lot of fun.  Where is the delete button when you need it?  I don't get much computer time when I get home, but I will be thinking of you tonight and look forward to hearing back from you.

Welcome to N4M’s. This site is full of information, support and encouragement. My son graduated boot camp Jan 29, 2010 and is now stationed overseas.

If your profile or profile name contains last name (even if it is different from your rct/sailor) your rct/sailors first name or your e -mail address, I recommend that you change it for the safety of your sailor. Remember, this is a public site and anyone can read comments posted here.

If have a Sailor in the fleet-search groups for ship, sub, rating, duty station, squadron, etc.

If you are a DEPer: Please join the group http://www.navyformoms.com/group/bootcampmoms , (just point and click on the http address) there you will find new N4M’S as well as more seasoned N4M’s to guide you along.

Join this group http://www.navyformoms.com/group/deppersinbutnotyet read some of the discussions for good info

There is a group for each month rcts leave "Leavin for Boot Camp in (month they leave)" search groups and join this group...it will have info as well as connect you with other N4M's whose rcts leave that month.

Once you get your PIR (Pass In Review=graduation) date…search groups and join the PIR group..if it hasn’t been formed yet YOU may need to form it.

Go to YouTube and search Navy Racks, boot camp, graduaton, Battlestations 21 (CNN does it)-also Navy folding, bed making, shoe polishing (doing things the NAVY way).

Explore this site as well…Forums, Groups and Videos and check out the “Main” tab…lots of good info.
