I was just wondering if anyone knows a possible graduation date. Since he will be there through the holidays. The recruiter told me 59 days but i was wondering what days they are closed for holidays.

Kim - I know this topic really well since I made sure my son was in the Christmas unit.

More than likely, since he is leave Oct 25th, he will be in the Christmas unit at boot camp.  This is only one time during the year that sailors are allowed to come home after boot camp (ie the Christmas unit).  So, he is very, very, lucky.  He should graduated 23 December and will report to his new duty station (start work) Jan 2nd.

If you are planning to fly to the PIR, and if it was me, I would go ahead and start looking at flights now.  Southwest allows you to change flights with no additional cost, so if something happens to change you can do it.  Since your already going, it's not like you're wasting your money.  Remember, on December 23rd alot of people will be traveling and the flights will be booked.

Secondly, if you don't have Southwest, look at booking a flight on any other airline and make dang sure you buy the travel insurance.  This will allow you to cancel the flight if something happens and he can't make his PIR date.

The bottomline is - The money you will be saving now, since the cost haven't skyrocketed yet, will easily pay for the extra cost of the insurance.  Remember, you will also need proof that your son has airline tickets from GL, to your home, and to whatever duty station he will go to for "A" school.

Yes, you can drive too...

(have your son come talk to me at NavyDEP.com, I will pump him up on all the stuff that will happen at boot camp)

You may wish to join the group, Leavin' for bootcamp in October or October Boot Camp Family. You will meet others with loved ones leaving that day/week who may be in the same TG and have PIR together. I also suggest you join New Moms Stop Here and check out the Pages and Discussions there. Two other groups you may wish to check out: Boot Camp Mom's and PIR Reference Information.

As Craig said, your future Sailor may want to join http://www.navydep.com to learn the ins and outs from the DEP point of view. He runs that and will steer him to some good links on there.

As Craig said, it is very possible that your future Sailor will be in the Christmas TG.  It is also possible that he could be the week before depending on how quickly his division forms.  You will only know for sure when the form letter comes about a week or so after he arrives at the RTC.

Thank you Craig and lemonelephant this helps.

Hi Kim.  My son reports today, in Great Lakes.  He left yesterday for Little Rock office.  They put him up in a hotel last night and suppose to have final oath this morning.  Flight to Chicago sometime today or evening.

I know it is still early but has your son made it to Great Lakes yet?  Thanks and have a blessed day.

Kim L.

My son actually leaves for Great Lakes today. He is home right now and has to report back to the hotel by 10pm tonight. Have you heard from your son yet?
