Supporting my Step Son

I'm here to support my step son. I want to be sure that is clarified. Although I love him as a mother would, he has a mom that loves and supports him and I never want to dim that light. =)

My heart swells!

Posted on September 29, 2012 at 10:30am 0 Comments

In just two, very short days my stepson, Thad will be swearing in with the U.S. Navy! He will soon thereafter be entering in the schooling for the nuke program. I’m so excited for him, the opportunities knocking at his door, the experiences that await him and the journey that lies ahead. He will leave here a boy and return a man, a man that I proudly call my bonus son! He truly is a bonus in my life. I am very fortunate to such a wonderful bond with him.

My pride is immeasurable!

As reported on the national news Henryville, IN. was destroyed by a tornado on March 2nd. http://usnews.msnbc.msn.com/?threadId=3315273&pc=25&sp=475

My youngest son has organized and coordinated volunteers to go out and assist the residents of Henryville. This morning when I woke up and stumbled my way to the kitchen for coffee both my son and step son were there to greet…

“I’m gonna be a NUKE!!!!”

Posted on January 16, 2012 at 10:30am 11 Comments

Was the voice mail message left to me from my step son on Tuesday, January 11th. Oh how I hated that I missed that call, but the voice mail he left me made my heart smile. “Ms. Paulie, I passed my test! I’m gonna be a NUKE” my step son excitingly yells into my voice mail. “Call me back, I might miss your call I’m going to be helping my grandparents. I love you Ms. Paulie! THANK YOU for everything you’ve done for me!” (A voice mail message I will not delete from my…

Profile Information

About me:
About me………… I am a devoted mom of two, stepmom of one and wife. My family; is the most important thing in the world to me. My career has been in the mortgage lending industry, but now that the children are grown, it’s time for me to take some time for myself. I plan to go back to school, for what I’m not yet sure. Hopefully, I’ll decide what I want to be when I grow up by fall of 2012.

I LOVE to cook, ride motorcycles, read, socialize, traveling and believe it or not I enjoy cleaning. My kids would all quote me in saying, “There’s a place for everything and everything has its place”. LoL!

I’m excited to embark on this naval journey with my stepson; I have been blessed to have a strong, healthy and close relationship with him, that of which most blended families aren’t fortunate to have. I couldn’t love him more if he were my own.

Stage of (Sailor’s) Navy Career?
Waiting to leave for Boot Camp
When I heard “Navy,” I:
Was proud and encouraged it
From my experience with the Navy, the most important thing I learned was:
That the navy is an extension of your family. I grew up right out side the gates of Great Lakes Naval base, in fact my ex husband was a navy brat that I met during his father’s time at Great Lakes. So the military life is something I’m familiar with, with that being said; I’ve seen first hand how close of a family the navy families are to each other, supportive and dependable.
Through this Navy experience, I now believe:
It was positive and maturing. Our relationship has grown stronger.

How did your boy do?  Did you stay for the entire event or did you have to leave early?

Did I see the word "nuke" in your post?  We've love the ride and our sailor is a submarine nuke.  He's been in almost 4 years now.  Just had a call that he MAY be able to come home in March since he worked all the Thanksgiving, Christmas and New year's holidays (plus volunteered when the hurricanes came through.)

I'm a transplanted Hoosier.  See Kaye has been in touch with you.  I am so happy to have finally met her after talking to each other on the phone for at least a year.

Hope all goes well!   Carol

Hi, "IndianaBounsMom," and welcome to Indiana Moms! I'm the administrator for the group, so if you have any questions, please ask. My son is a Nuke MM serving on the submarine ALABAMA, based out of Bangor, WA. He's been in for five years.

If you're near Indy (or willling to drive), there's a monthly informal dinner in Avon (just outside the west loop) which meets on third Mondays. You'll find the details for any month's dinner on the Events calendar (right-hand column) by clicking on any 3rd Monday. From time to time, we also have regional gatherings in various parts of the state.

Jump in with any questions or comments you may have. I think you'll find we're a nice bunch of folks and always willing to lend an ear to listen or a shoulder to cry on. Hugs! k.
